With the sale of Country “98.9 The Wolf” 98.9 WLFV Midlothian/100.3 WARV-FM Petersburg to Educational Media Foundation about to close, Alpha Media has made changes at its two remaining Richmond VA market stations. Classic Hits “107.3 BBT” WBBT-FM Powhatan has flipped to 1980s Hits positioning as “The 80s Station”. WLFV middayer Jason Paige has moved to mornings at WBBT-FM replacing now former Program Director Jim Conlee, who exits. Alpha Sells Richmond Pair To EMF

Alpha Media is cutting its Richmond VA cluster in half with the sale of Country “98.9/100.3 The Wolf” 98.9 WLFV Midlothian/100.3 WARV-FM Petersburg to Educational Media Foundation for $2 million. The deal will take WLFV/WARV-FM out of competition with SummitMedia’s “K95” 95.3 WKHK leaving them as the only Country station in the market. WKHK held a 6.3 share in the Summer 2016 Nielsen Audio ratings to The Wolf’s 1.5. EMF’s applications requests a main studio waiver rebroadcasting “K-Love” flagship KLVR Middletown CA. Alpha Reboots Entire Richmond Cluster

Update 10/20: Alpha Media has completed its revamp of its entire Richmond cluster. As previously expected, Country “93.1 The Wolf” WLFV moved its programming to 98.9 WWLB (replacing Variety Hits “98.9 Liberty“) and 100.3 WARV-FM Petersburg (replacing the simulcast of sister Classic Hits “Big Oldies 107.3” WBBT). Replacing “The Wolf” on 93.1 WLFV is Classic Country “93.1 Hank-FM“. With the demise of the Variety Hits “Liberty” format, Classic Hits “Big Oldies 107.3” WBBT has relaunched as “107.3 BBT” with an increased 1980’s presence in its playlist. Alpha and L&L To Merge; Acquire Main Line Broadcasting

Larry Wilson is merging his two operating companies into one and acquiring another. Alpha Broadcasting and L&L Broadcasting will merge to become Alpha Media, while purchasing Main Line Broadcasting’s 19 stations in four markets for $57 million. Both Alpha and L&L were founded by Larry Wilson sharing the same management teams with L&L already operating Alpha’s stations. Following the completion of the two transactions the company will operate 68 radio stations in 12 markets. L&L’s deal to acquire Main Line was first reported in February by Tom Taylor Now.
