Cumulus Planning All-News In Atlanta, LA & Minneapolis?

Update 4/27: Cumulus officially announces 106.7 WYAY Atlanta will flip to All-News in Mid-May. Update 4/9: A few more domains registered over the weekend clarify the story a bit. More domains were added with AllNews prefixes for 680, 1230, 1340, 93.7, 100.5, and 101.5. Pair those with the previous 98.9, 99.7, and 106.7 and you have every station operated by Cumulus or Dickey Broadcasting in Atlanta with the exception of 97.9. This could be Cumulus trying to mask the potential destination of the News station in the market or simply playing games with us. These additional domains should have no effect on the registrations for 95.5 Los Angeles and 105.7 Minneapolis. We were also reminded that Cumulus is in the process of launching an in-house Traffic service with Radiate Media. John Dickey ha...[Read More]

Rock 100.5 Atlanta Debuts

After stunting all weekend with “Atlanta’s Radio Idol”, the second shoe in the 99.7/100.5 frequency swap dropped this morning at 6:00am with the debut of The Regular Guys on “Rock 100.5“. The Regular Guys, made up of Larry Wachs, Eric Von Haessler, “Southside” Steve Rickman and Tim Andrews had two tours of duty at crosstown 96.1 WKLS when it was known as “96 Rock”. The station, which later relaunched as “Project 9-6-1“, was partially responsible for the demise of 99X. The new “Rock 100.5” looks to be positioning itself as a Mainstream Rocker. The rest of the station’s staff includes 99X holdovers Axel in Afternoon Drive, Matt C. & Lewis at night, and Matt Jones in the overnight and as host of the Sunda...[Read More]

Q100 Atlanta To Move to 99.7, 99X To Go Online

Update 1/25/08: The change is now complete. At 5:30am, 99X signed-off with Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” while relaunching as 99x.com. After simulcasting Q100’s “Bert Show” all week, the simulcast ended at 6:00am with 100.5 airing a loop of Beyonce singing “To The Left” and Bert Weiss letting listeners know that Q100 is now on 99.7. At 10:00, 100.5 began a stunt of eight possible formats for listeners to vote for. We expect the stunt to last at least through the weekend if not a little bit longer before the debut of Rock 100.5. Original Entry 1/12/08: After more than 15 years as one of the most respected and influential Modern Rockers in the world, “99X” WNNX Atlanta will bid farewell next week. Sister CHR “...[Read More]

“Rock 100.5” Atlanta Coming

With Q100 moving to 99.7 this week, the speculation in Atlanta centers on what will end up on 100.5. Based on domain registrations made this week, we’re fully expecting “Rock 100.5” to be the new station. Cumulus has registered Rock1005.com, Rock100Atlanta.com, Rock100Atl.com, and 1005Rock.com along with .net variations of all. All of those domains are pointing to the site of sister “Warm 98” WRRM Cincinnati. This is a similar tactic to that done by sister WWFT Indianapolis a few weeks ago prior to its change to AC. Crosstown 96.1 WKLS was known as “96 Rock” from 1974 until November 2006, when it relaunched as “Project 9-6-1“. This helps verify the rumors that former WKLS morning team “The Regular Guys” will do mornings on 1...[Read More]
