Jax Country Moves To 94.1 In Jacksonville

Chesapeake-Portsmouth Broadcasting has flipped half of its Christian AC “The Promise” simulcast in Jacksonville to Classic Country. The “Jax Country” format that debuted on 105.3 WYKB Fernandina Beach in October 2017 is now simulcasting on 94.1 WSOS-FM Fruit Cove giving it nearly full market coverage between the two signals. The Christian AC format remains on 100.7 WMUV-FM Brunswick GA. WYKB has been slowly growing in the ratings as it has trended up 0.8 – 1.0 – 1.2 over the past three months. WSOS-FM/WMUV-FM do not appear in the publicly listed ratings.

Jacksonville’s Answer Gets Promised FM Signal Upgrade

Chesapeake-Portsmouth Broadcasting has broken up the simulcast of Christian AC “The Promise” 94.1 WSOS-FM Fruit Cove FL and 100.7 WMUV Brunswick GA. While the Promise programming remains on 100.7, 94.1 has flipped to a simulcast of sister Conservative Talk “AM600 The Answer” WBOB/100.3 WW262AG Jacksonville. The move upgrades WBOB’s FM signal from the 250 watt translator to the 5.5kW Class C3 signal of 94.1. A new format will debut on the 100.3 translator following a transitional phase to move the audience to the new signal. Chesapeake-Portsmouth Broadcasting acquired 94.1 and 100.7 in October 2014 from Renda Broadcasting for $3.7 million and moved the Promise format from 91.7 WTRJ-FM Orange Park in January 2015.

Jacksonville Duo Becomes New Home Of The Promise

Chesapeake-Portsmouth Broadcasting has closed on their acquisition of Classic Rock 94.1 WSOS-FM Fruit Cove, FL and Country “100.7 The Bull” WMUV Brunswick, GA in the Jacksonville market. The pair are now simulcasting the programming of Christian AC “91.7 The Promise” WTRJ-FM Orange Park and promoting that the programming will be moved to 94.1/100.7. WTRJ-FM is owned by Chesapeake-Portsmouth’s sister company Delmarva Educational Association. The group announced the purchase of WSOS-FM and WMUV in October from Renda Broadcasting for $3.7 million.

Renda Sells Two Of Its Four Jacksonville Stations

Renda Broadcasting is selling Classic Rock 94.1 WSOS-FM Fruit Cove, FL and Country “100.7 The Bull” WMUV Brunswick, GA to Nancy Epperson’s Chesapeake-Portsmouth Broadcasting for $3.7 million. Chesapeake-Portsmouth Broadcasting currently owns Conservative Talk 600 WBOB/100.3 W262AG Jacksonville. Under the name Delmarva Educational Association, the Eppersons own Christian AC “91.7 The Promise” WTRJ-FM Orange Park/91.9 WAYL St. Augustine, local K-Love affiliate 88.1 WCRJ Jacksonville, and operates Classic Hits “102.3 The Beach” 1600 WZNZ/102.3 W271AP via Time Brokerage Agreement. WMUV Rebrands Again; Shifts Focus Away From Jacksonville

In late February, Renda Broadcasting shifted “Country Legends 100.7” WMUV Brunswick, GA/Jacksonville, FL to Mainstream Country with the broader “Country 100.7” moniker. That branding is already kaput. The station has changed its name once again to “100.7 The Bull“. With the name change, for the first time since the late 1980’s, the station is pulling its focus out of the Jacksonville market and focusing on Southern Georgia. Renda Broadcasting has flipped Rhythmic AC “Movin 100.7” WMUV Jacksonville to Classic Country as “Country Legends 100.7“. The station, flanking sister “Froggy” 99.9 WGNE, will focus on music from the 70’s through mid-90’s.
