K-Rock Gives Way To AC Fun 101 In Reno

Evans Broadcasting flipped Rock “100.9 K-Rock” KURK Sparks/Reno NV to AC “Fun 101” on Tuesday, March 7. Cluster OM Doug Daniels adds PD and morning host duties for the new station. His wife Denise Daniels will host middays and Reno market veteran Rick Carter joins for afternoons from Shamrock Active Rock “Z105.3” KZTI. The syndicated John Tesh will be heard at night. New KRFN call letters are now in place. The new format goes after Reno Media Group’s “106.9 More-FM” KRNO. No web or social media presence exists yet for the new brand. KURK midday host Kathleen and afternoon host Jay Slater will segue to sister Country “92.1 The Wolf” KWFP.

Ron Way Miller Named WRXK Program Director

Beasley Media Rock “96 K-Rock” 96.1 WRXK-FM Bonita Springs/Fort Myers FL has named ‘Ron Way’ Miller as its new Program Director. Miller joins WRXK-FM from Evans Broadcasting “100.9 The Bandit” KURK Reno where he served as OM/PD/Afternoon Host. He will also host middays at WRXK. The second half of the Wilks deal has been filed with the FCC as Lotus will pay $1.2 million for AAA 100.1 KTHX Dayton NV and 95.9 K240CA Carson City. Lotus will simultaneously divest Sports “NBC Sports 1060” KFOY Sparks to Lazer Broadcasting for $50,000. KFOY will be Lazer’s first property in the Reno market. Bandit On Move In Reno

Following the sale of 92.9 KURK Reno to Educational Media Foundation, Wilks Broadcasting is moving its Classic Rock “92.9 The Bandit” format to 100.9. The move of The Bandit to 100.9 on June 30 will displace Hot AC “Mix 100.9” KMXW. Neither KURK nor KMXW are ratings winners. In the Fall 2013 Nielsen Audio ratings, “Mix 100.9” registered a 1.0 share, while KURK held a 1.6 share of the Reno audience. In addition to 100.9, Wilks Broadcasting retains Country “92.1 The Wolf” KWFP and AAA “100.1 The X” KTHX following the sale of 92.9 KURK.

KRZQ Reno Drops Alternative Goes Adult CHR

Wilks Broadcasting Alternative 100.9 KRZQ Reno, NV dropped its long running format at noon today and flipped to Adult CHR as “Mix 100.9“. The station then located at 96.5 debuted its now former format in 1992 before moving to 100.9 in 1998. Former KRZQ personality Mat Diablo has a tribute to the station on his blog. The move at 100.9 looks to be a direct result of last week’s moves resulting in the demise of Mainstream CHR “Z93.7” KWNZ and debut of Urban “Swag 97.3”. The change will not result in any job losses.
