Midwest Communications flipped AC “Mix 101.9” KRWK Fargo ND to Variety Hits “101.9 Jack-FM” at 12:00 this morning. The move eliminates the only AC station in the Fargo market and positions KRWK between Radio FM Media’s Hot AC “Big 98.7” KLTA and Radio Wahpeton Breckenridge Classic Hits “106.9 The Eagle” KEGK. With the move to the jockless brand, no word just yet on the status of the KRWK airstaff including morning hosts Scotch Anderson, Britta Lee, and JJ, middayer Ryan Kelly and afternoon host Dan Michaels. KRWK ranked ninth in the Fargo-Moorhead market in the Spring 2017 Nielsen Audio ratings with a 3.4 share, but down from a 4.1 in Fall 2016. The format debuted on 104.7 KMJO in 2013 following Midwest’s acquisition of the cluste...[Read More]
Midwest Communications has made a pair of format changes in Fargo, ND this afternoon. Active Rock “Rock 102” 101.9 KRWK Fargo is no more as that frequency has become AC “Mix 101.9” assuming the branding of 104.7 KMJO Hope. That in turn allows 104.7 to become Classic Country “104.7 Duke-FM“. Both KRWK and KMJO had picked up their now former formats within days of one another in September 2013 as KRWK flipped from News/Talk and KMJO from Variety Hits.
Following the completion of this afternoon’s Minnesota Vikings game, Midwest Communications flipped Conservative Talk “101.9 Talk-FM” KRWK Fargo to Rock “Rock 102“. The station is launching with 2000 songs in a row commercial free. KRWK previously possessed a Rock format from 2002 until March 2012, first as “101.9 The Box” KKBX and then as “Rock 102” under the KRWK calls. The move places the station back in competition with Radio FM Media’s KQWB, which moved from 98.7 to 105.1 in August. KRWK registered a 1.7 share in the Spring 2013 Arbitron ratings despite being the Fargo affiliate for both Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. Sister News/Talk 790 KFGO led the market with a 15.5 share with its all local lineup.
Midwest Communications continues its expansion into the Dakotas with the purchase of Radio Fargo-Moorhead from Jim Ingstad. Update 9/20: Midwest is paying $25 Million for Radio Fargo-Moorhead. Original Report 9/18: The six Radio Fargo-Moorhead stations are Sports “740 The Fan” KVOX, News/Talk 790 KFGO, CHR “Y94” 93.7 WDAY-FM, Country “Bob 95” 95.1 KBVB, Talk “101.9 Talk-FM” KRWK, and Adult Hits “104.7 Popster-FM” KMJO. No terms have been announced for the purchase. The acquisition of the six Fargo area stations follows Midwest’s purchase of Backyard Broadcasting’s seven station cluster in Sioux Falls, SD in July.
Ingstad Radio Fargo-Moorhead will flip Classic Rock “Rock 102” KRWK to Talk as “101.9 Talk-FM” on Monday, March 19. NTS Media reports that the lineup will feature a local morning show hosted by former KFAB Omaha host Tom Becka and a local afternoon show hosted by J.D. Hayworth who will continue his mid-morning show on Cumulus’ KSFO San Francisco. The rest of the lineup will feature syndicated hosts Brian Kilmeade, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Jason Lewis, and Michael Savage. Limbaugh currently airs on Great Plains Integrated Media’s “1100 The Flag” WZFG. Radio Fargo-Moorhead already operates News/Talk “The Mighty 790” KFGO which features local programming from 5am to at least 9pm daily.
