As first teased in the report earlier this month that Tom Joyner would be ousted from his Reach Media syndicated morning show at the end of 2016, Radio-One is shuffling the morning shows at its Washington DC cluster. The moves will start with Joyner shifting from Urban AC “Majic 102.3” WMMJ to Talk 1450 WOL. That will bump Carl Nelson from mornings to afternoons at WOL. Joyner’s vacancy at WMMJ will be filled by the move of the syndicated Russ Parr from Urban 93.9 WKYS. WKYS in turn will debut a new locally originating morning show as Lil Mo and DJ QuickSilva will move from afternoons at sister Urban “92Q” WERQ Baltimore. These changes will all take effect on Tuesday, January 19, 2016.

Simpson will host afternoons from 3-7pm on Urban AC “Majic 102.3” WMMJ Bethesda, MD starting on August 17 as part of what The Washington Post reports will be a multi-media deal with a television component. They state that Simpson will likely host a music video program on TVOne similar to his “Video Soul” that was seen on BET from 1983 until 1996. Simpson came to the Washington market from WJLB Detroit in 1977 as PD/Morning host at then “Disco 93.9” WRC-FM. He led the station through its transition to Urban WKYS before moving over to what became CBS’ 95.5 WPGC in 1993. He has been retired from radio since exiting WP...[Read More]
