X105.1 Debuts In Kansas City; Jack Moves To 102.5

As we first reported last week, Cumulus moved Alternative “102.5 The Underground” K273BZ/KCMO-HD2 Kansas City to the full powered 105.1 KCJK as “X105.1” at 7:30 this morning. That move will send Variety Hits “105.1 Jack-FM” in reverse to 102.5. KCJK had been tied for 13th in the Kansas City market with a 3.6 share, while the Alternative format, which launched last November held a 0.8 share. “X105.1” is debuting with the typical 10,000 songs in a row commercial free and gives a full-powered competitor to Entercom’s “96.5 The Buzz” KRBZ. KRBZ currently ranks sixth in the Kansas City market with a 4.6 share. This also returns the “X” branding to the market where it was previously used on 107.3 from 1997 through 1999...[Read More]

Alternative Underground Comes To Kansas City

As the Royals were wrapping up the World Series last night, Cumulus flipped Country “102.5 Nash Icon” K273BZ/KCMO-HD2 Kansas City to Alternative “102.5 The Underground“. The flip gives Kansas City a second Alternative station joining Entercom’s “96.5 The Buzz” KRBZ. This also makes the first station for Cumulus to flip away from the Nash or Nash Icon initiative following the departure of the Dickey Brothers. K273BZ registered a 0.4 share in each of the past three Nielsen Audio PPM monthlies going up against three other Country stations in the market. KRBZ is currently ranked seventh overall with a 5.3 share of the local audience. Do Social Media Likes Lead To Ratings: Part 1

One week after the launch of Country “94.7 Nash-FM” New York the first thing we noticed were the amount of people that quickly began following the station on social media. Seven days into operation WNSH already has 8894 likes on Facebook and 2356 Twitter followers*. To put it into comparison, top rated AC “106.7 Lite-FM” WLTW has just 18,442 likes. The most liked New York radio station on Facebook belongs to “Hot 97” WQHT with 275,516. While we are unable to parse any demographic info from the amount of likes, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that a younger skewing station has 10 times as many followers as an office friendly background station. We’ve selected eight stations that launched new formats in PPM markets over the past month. Some ...[Read More]
