WPZR Completes Rebrand As Detroit Praise Network As EMF Closes On 102.7 Purchase

Urban One Gospel “Praise 102.7” WPZR Mount Clemens/Detroit is officially no more as the format has completed its move to a network of four translators. The “Detroit Praise Network” consists of three translators acquired by Urban One in the sale of WPZR to Educational Media Foundation: 93.5 W228CJ Detroit, 93.5 W228CU Riverview, 98.3 W252BX Detroit and the previously owned 99.9 W260CB Detroit. The four signals combine to cover most of Detroit and its surrounding suburbs. Programming will originate from 105.9 WDMK-HD2. The sale of WPZR from Urban One to Educational Media Foundation was filed with the FCC giving more details on the sale. EMF will pay $12,229,000 for WPZR and send three translators to Urban One. 93.5 W228CJ Detroit (serving Ferndale, Hamtramck, and downtown Detroit), 93.5 W228CU Riverview (covering Allen Park, Melvindale, and Southgate), and 98.3 W252BX Detroit (covering Dearborn) will be sent the other way to become part of the Gospel “Detroit Praise Network” along with 99.9 W260CB Detroit (covering Birmingham, Ferndale, Southfield & Troy). Boogie D Adds Oversight Of Urban One Detroit To St. Louis Duties

Urban One has announced that St. Louis Operations Manager Jowcol ‘Boogie D’ Dolby will add those duties for its Detroit cluster as well. Dolby fills the role held by Nate Bell prior to his exit in September. He will now oversee the day-to-day programming of Urban Oldies “Soul 99.9” W260CB/WDMK-HD2, Gospel “Praise 102.7” WPZR, Urban AC “105.9 Kiss-FM” WDMK, and Urban “Hot 107.5” WGPR in Detroit in addition to Urban AC “95.5 The Lou” WFUN and Urban “Hot 104.1” WHHL St. Louis. To assist Dolby when out of town, the company has promoted WDMK midday host Fawn ‘Fantasee Blu’ Connelly and WGPR middayer Arthur ‘A+’ Willis to Assistant Program Director roles for their respective stations.

FCC Report 9/18: What’s iHeart Doing With Identical Cleveland Translators?

iHeartMedia currently has two translators from the AM Revitalization Waiver Period seeking identical facilities on 106.9 in Cleveland OH. On August 1, iHeart applied to move what was originally 94.7 W234BW Parkersburg WV to Cleveland rebroadcasting News/Talk 1100 WTAM with 195w vertical/213m. Over the course of the two waiver periods, iHeart had seven translators that it applied to move to different destinations in each. W293CW was one of those where it was granted a Construction Permit to relocate to Marion OH as 106.5 W293CW rebroadcasting 1490 WMRN. On top of that the translator was given a six month extension of its CP to extend the time it had to be built from expiring on March 15 to September 15.

Radio-One LMA’s WGPR, Shuffles Detroit Formats

Update 10/31: As expected, “Praise 102.7” debuted this morning. The station is operating with new WPZR calls already in place.
