Urban One Classic Hip-Hop “Boom 102.9” W275BK Decatur/Atlanta GA and 97.5 WUMJ-HD2 has flipped to R&B Oldies “Classix 102.9” at 12pm today. WUMJ Atlanta Returns To Majic Simulcast

After flipping from a simulcast of Urban AC “Majic 107.5” WAMJ Roswell to Classic Hip-Hop “Boom 102.9” W275BK Decatur at the beginning of this year, Radio-One is reversing course on 97.5 WUMJ Fayetteville GA. WUMJ covers the south side of the Atlanta market and the move comes after declining ratings for WAMJ. After stating in January that, “We found that almost all of our listeners of MAJIC 107.5/97.5 were only listening on 107.5 since we upgraded our signal three years ago,” VP/GM Tim Davies reversed stance in today’s announcement commenting, “One signal wasn’t strong enough to reach all of our audience. Our South Atlanta audience missed listening to The Steve Harvey Morning Show, Maria More and The Ride with SiMan and Chubb Rock in th...[Read More]

Boom! Atlanta Gains Third Classic Hip-Hop Signal

In the course of one week Atlanta has gone from having zero Classic Hip-Hop stations to three. Following last week’s relaunch of “Old School 99.3” and today’s launch by Cumulus of “OG 97.9“, Radio-One has joined the club with the launch of “Boom 102.9” W275BK Decatur/107.5 WAMJ-HD2 Roswell. W275BK had been simulcasting Gospel “Praise 102.5” WPZE Mableton. All three stations are operating on FM via translators. However, 102.9 has the best of the three operating with 147 watts at 312.9 meters just east of downtown and covering the city and adjacent suburbs (Coverage Map). The move gives Radio-One its fourth Boom branded station, joining recent launches in Dallas, Houston, and Philadelphia.

Atlanta Gets A Little More Praise

Radio-One Gospel “Praise 102.5” WPZE Mableton/Atlanta adds a translator simulcast on 102.9 W275BK. The move gives the WPZE, which is a class A operating 8 miles southwest of Atlanta, a stronger signal in the city and neighboring Stone Mountain. 102.5 operates with 3kW at 469 feet, while 102.9 broadcasts with 160 watts and 997 feet. 102.9 had been rebroadcasting sister Urban “Hot 107.9” WHTA.
