CBS Gives HD Radio A Needed Programming Boost A Decade Too Late

On Wednesday CBS Radio News/Talk 1020 KDKA Pittsburgh announced the launch of a new “KDKA Traffic & Weather” HD Radio subchannel on 107.9 WDSY-HD3 and streaming via Radio.com. The programming will feature traffic and weather reports every five minutes from 5am to 7pm weekdays and road closure updates along with weather in nights and weekends. For the first time since 102.7 WNEW New York debuted as the first HD Radio station in 1999 a broadcaster is creating something that can be used as a selling point for the technology. Mark Anderson Elevated To CBS Pittsburgh VP/Programming

CBS Radio Pittsburgh has elevated Mark Anderson to Vice President of Programming. Anderson was Operations Manager for the cluster and Program Director for Hot AC “100.7 Star” WBZZ and Country “Y108” 107.9 WDSY. Jim Graci will continue in his role as PD of News/Talk 1020 KDKA and Sports “93.7 The Fan” KDKA-FM. CBS Names New PDs For WQAM & KDKA-FM

CBS Radio has tapped two internal options to program Sports 560 WQAM Miami and “93.7 The Fan” KDKA-FM Pittsburgh. Ryan Maguire is transferring from KDKA-FM to WQAM beginning on May 4 replacing Andy King. Maguire joined KDKA-FM in 2012 where he will be replaced by Jim Graci. Graci is already in the building as Program Director of sister News/Talk 1020 KDKA and will just be adding “93.7 The Fan” to his duties. To assist, PJ Kumanchik will add Executive Producer duties at KDKA-FM to his News Director/Executive Producer position on the AM. CBS Makes Pre-Holiday Layoffs In Multiple Markets

Robert Feder reports that AAA 93.1 WXRT night host Tom Marker has had his position elimnated after 33 years at the station. At sister Country 99.5 WUSN, midday host Trish Biondo didn’t have her contract renewed after 27 years at the station. At Alternative “Live 105” KITS San Francisco, Steve Masters is out of mornings after just 9 months. And in Washington, Hot AC “94.7 Fresh-FM” WIAD loses middayer Kristie McIntyre.
