iHeartMedia Launches Tu 103.1 Austin

The first flip of the usually busy Memorial Day Weekend has taken place as iHeartMedia flipped Alternative “103.1 iHeart Austin” K276EL/98.1 KVET-HD2 Austin TX to Spanish CHR “Tu 103.1” at 10am today. Positioned as “Donde Viven Tus Hits” (Where Your Hits Live), the station clones the branding utilized at “Tu 94.9” WZTU Miami. Enrique Santos’ syndicated morning show based at WZTU will also be heard on K276EL. The new format creates a direct format competitor to Emmis’ “Latino 102.7” K274AX/107.1 KLZT-HD2. Austin Gets Jammin

Clear Channel flipped 103.1 K276EL Austin from a simulcast of Sports “1300 The Zone” KVET to Rhythmic AC “Jammin 103.1” at 3pm today. Clear Channel lists featured artists on “Jammin 103.1” to include The Isley Brothers, Destiny’s Child, Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, Rhianna, Flo Rida, and Jennifer Lopez. The EMF Broadcasting owned translator was moved into Austin from San Marcos last year and covers much of the city with 250 watts. The translator is being fed by 98.1 KVET-HD2. This returns the “Jammin” moniker to the Austin market. 105.9 KFMK used the name for its Jammin Oldies and Rhythmic AC incarnations from 1998 through 2009. Translator Report 7/11

With the July 4 holiday, its been a quiet start to the month on the translator front. Here’s the rundown of the big moves since our last report. Maverick Media has acquired W262BR Beloit, WI from Edgewater Broadcasting for $45,000 and has begun the process of moving the station to Rockford, IL. The moves will bump the translator from 4 watts on 100.3 to 230 watts on 100.5 where it will move to the same tower as new sister Active Rock “104.9 The X” WXRX.
