103.1 West Palm Beach

West Palm Beach Signal Shuffle On June 1

Update 6/1: The frequency swap took place at 12am as WIRK and Sunny moved to new frequencies and “Smooth FM 104.3” launched as a placeholder on 104.3 as it prepares to be sold and moved to Miami. The final song on “Now 103.1” was Midnight Oil – Beds Are Burning. That happened to be the final song on WPBZ’s previous incarnation as “The Buzz” prior to it becoming “Now” last December. The first song on 103.1 WIRK was Lee Brice – A Woman Like You. 107.9 ended its 40+ year run as a Country station with Justin Moore – ‘Til My Last Day. That led into “Sunny 107.9” taking over with Kid Rock – All Summer Long. “Sunny 104.3” chose the Bee Gees – Staying Alive as its final song. That led ...[Read More]

CBS Sells West Palm Beach Stations

Update 4/11: The Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel and RadioInk report that pending FCC approval, Palm Beach Broadcasting will look to spin off 104.3 WEAT and 106.3 WHFS while retaining 102.3 WMBX, 103.1 WPBZ, 107.9 WEAT and the AC format of “Sunny 104.3“. That will require some format shuffling, presumably with Sunny displacing “103.1 Now” due to the overlap between it and WRMF. 104.3 has a city grade signal down into Fort Lauderdale and part of the reasoning in selling off that frequency is that it may be able to move further south into the larger Miami/Fort Lauderdale market. Original Report 4/10: CBS has agreed to sell its five West Palm Beach stations to Palm Beach Broadcasting for $50 Million. Palm Beach Broadcasting, run by CEO Dean Goodman already owns Hot AC 97....[Read More]

WPBZ Gets Into The Now

CBS Active Rock “103.1 The Buzz” WPBZ West Palm Beach dropped its format at 3pm today and relaunched as Adult CHR “Now 103.1“. The new format, billed as “Todays best hits, without the rap” is targeted directly at locally owned Hot AC 97.9 WRMF and Clear Channel CHR “Wild 95.5” WLDI. The station is already taking potshots at both on the air. The previous “Buzz” format has shifted to 103.1 HD2 although the entire airstaff seems to be out with the shift. In the most recent PPM monthlies that were just released, WPBZ jumped from 2.3 to 2.8 while WRMF and WLDI combined for over a 10 share. WRMF is currently second in the market overall, but is neck and neck with CBS’ “Sunny 104.3” WEAT. The first hour of Now 103.1 con...[Read More]
