CBS Radio and the Texas Rangers have agreed on a multi-year deal to bring the play-by-play rights to Sports “105.3 The Fan” KRLD-FM Dallas beginning in 2015. KRLD-FM previously aired weekday games in 2009 and 2010, while sister News/Talk 1080 KRLD was the team’s flagship from 1995 until 2010. Since 2011 the games had been heard on “ESPN Dallas 103.3” KESN-FM Allen. Hall-of-Famer Eric Nadel and Matt Hicks will remain as play-by-play voices for the broadcasts. Update 10/4: Cumulus will begin its LMA of KESN on Tuesday, October 8. With KESN coming under Cumulus management, 104.1 KTDK will drop its simulcast of “The Ticket” 1310 KTCK this weekend. As Cumulus’ first attempt to divest the station was rejected by the FCC last month, it is unknown at this time how Cumulus will handle the quick divestiture of the station. Randy Galloway, who had announced his pending retirement from his afternoon slot at KESN when the LMA was first announced, will move up his timetable. Galloway will host his final show on KESN on Monday before the LMA goes into effect instead of remainin...[Read More]

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that the plan to retire has been in the works for over a year and has nothing to do with the change of control at the station. Galloway has been with KESN since 2003, when he joined the station from then and soon to be sister station 820 WBAP.
The Dallas/Fort Worth market will gain its second ESPN Radio affiliate on Wednesday, July 24. 1460 KCLE Burleson/Fort Worth/93.1 K226BM Cleburne will drop its Classic/Texas Country format and debut a schedule that will compliment ESPN’s 103.3 KESN Allen/Dallas. The station’s daytime programming will feature ESPN Radio network programming that is not carried by 103.3. While KESN carries Mike & Mike in the morning and the first two hours of Colin Cowherd, “ESPN 1460” will air a local Sports talk morning show from 6-9am and continue its long=running “DFW Tradefair” tradio program from 9-11. After KESN shifts to local programming at 11am, KCLE will pickup the network programming. ESPN has a similar arrangement in Los Angeles where 830 KLAA carries the n...[Read More]
