FCC Applications 10/23: Philly Translator Move-In Denied

The FCC has denied Hope Christian Church of Marlton’s attempt to move 105.7 W289AZ Trenton, NJ to the tower site of Davidson Media’s “Mega 1310” WEMG Camden, NJ/Philadelphia, which would’ve become the originating station for the translator. The move would’ve required W289AZ to move approximately 25km to a location with zero overlap with the currently approved signal contours for the translator utilizing the “Mattoon Waiver”. Station Moves Univision Spanish News/Talk “Radio Mambi 710” WAQI Miami has applied to relocate to the site of sister 1140 WQBA. The station will remain at 50kW directional during the day, but drop from 50kW to 6.3kW at night. As its CP for 30kW at 50 meters was set to expire on August 3, Wisconsin Rapids Seventh Day Adventist Church has applied and been granted a modification for 200 watts at 14 meters in order to get 91.9 WRAO Wisconsin Rapids, WI on-air before the permit expires (Coverage Map). WRAO states that the engineering firm hired to build the station’s facility went out of business before completing the project. Station Moves Mount Wilson FM’s 97.9 KMZT-FM Salinas, CA seeks to increase from a Class A with 2.9kW at 146 meters to a B1 with 4.5kW at 175 meters (Coverage Map). In the northwest corner of Washington State, “Twilight 96.7” KBDB-FM Forks (named after the book/movie series that takes place there) has applied to increase from a Class A with 6kW at -23 meters to a C3 with 930 watts at 492 meters (Coverage Map). Translator Moves Milwaukee Radio Alliance proposes to increase 100.3 W262CJ Milwaukee from 12 watts at 67.9 meters to 99 watts at 164 meters (Coverage Map). The holiday season didn’t lead to a shutdown of activity at the FCC as many applications and sales continued to proceed through the Christmas break. Starting in New York City with a pair of AM’s seeking adjusted facilities. New York Public Radio’s 820 WNYC has proposed a new night operation where it will drop power from 1kW to 930 watts with a new directional array with no changes to its 10kW daytime signal. Radio Vision Cristiana’s 1330 WWRV is attempting to relocate to the tower of 1480 WZRC while remaining at 10kW daytime, but doubling from 5 to 10kW at night. FCC Update 7/16

Cumulus’ 97.9 KNRQ-FM Eugene, OR has filed a request for expedited approval to shift its pending move into Aloha in the Portland market to a new tower site. Claiming that it needs to be built before August 1 in order to close on its swap with EMF Broadcasting of 97.5 KYGA (was KRUZ-FM) Goleta CA and 103.7 KXPC-FM Harrisburg OR before the California license renewal deadline. If approved, KNRQ will now be built as a C1 with 9.7kW at 472 meters from the KGW-TV owned tower (instead of 50kw at 387 meters from a different location). Cumulus states it can build the new facility quickly, but if the new application is not approved before the August 1 deadline it will delay construction until at least December.
