WTOP Retains Top Billing Status For 2016

BIA/Kelsey has released its annual report on radio station revenues. For the sixth time in the past seven years Hubbard Radio News 103.5 WTOP Washington DC holds the title of the top revenue generator in the nation. WTOP’s projected $67.5 million in revenue rose from $65 million in 2015, however the radio industry as a whole remained flat around $14.1 billion. WTOP Reclaims #1 Biller Status For 2015

A year after being knocked off their perch by iHeartMedia CHR 102.7 KIIS-FM Los Angeles, Hubbard News 103.5 WTOP Washington DC has reclaimed the spot as the nation’s top billing radio station in BIA/Kelsey’s annual report. WTOP and its suburban simulcasters had its revenue rise from $63.5 million in 2014 to $65 million in 2015 to regain the lead, while continuing to be the only station outside of the top three markets to appear in the top 10 list. WTOP has now been the top billing station for five out of the past six years. Mike McMearty Promoted To WTOP Director Of News & Programming

After 23 years at Hubbard News 103.5 WTOP Washington, DC, Mike McMearty has been promoted from News Director to Director of News & Programming. McMearty steps up to take the position held by Laurie Cantillo prior to her departure in March to take a job in NASA’s Office of Communications. He joined WTOP in 1992 and worked as editor, producer, reporter, anchor, sports reporter and Assistant News Director before becoming News Director in 2000. The promotion of McMearty comes with additional appointments at WTOP. Mitchell Miller becomes Senior News Director in charge of the weekday morning newsroom. iHeartMedia CHR 102.7 KIIS Los Angeles is the new #1 revenue generating station in the country. BIA/Kelsey released its annual report of the top ten billers showing KIIS rising ahead of Hubbard News 103.5 WTOP Washington, DC as it ends WTOP’s four year reign at the top. KIIS’ $65.9 million estimated revenue in 2014 is up from $61.6 million in 2013 (and $56.8 million in 2012). WTOP held steady with an estimated $63.5 million.
