Ken Johnson Returns To Radio 103.9 New York As Program Director

Cumulus Media has announced that Vice President of Urban Formats Ken Johnson will exit his position as Operations Manager of Urban AC “Hot 107.7” WUHT Birmingham AL to return to his previous position as Program Director of Urban AC “Radio 103.9” WNBM Bronxville/New York. Johnson previously left Birmingham to launch WNBM in July 2014. He then returned to WUHT in April 2015 and added the title of VP/Urban for the company in January 2016. Cumulus Makes Massive Cuts At Radio 103.9 New York

Cumulus has let go of most of the local staff at Urban AC “Radio 103.9” WNBM Bronxville/New York. Exiting the station are middayer La Loca, mixer Mister Cee, part-timers Roxie and Terry Bello, Creative Services Director Ghost, and specialty shows Irie Jam and Midnight Masters of The Mix. Budget cuts were given as the reason for the cuts. Night host Marc Clarke and the syndicated Tom Joyner morning show and DL Hughley afternoon show remain in place for now. WNBM registered a 0.7 share in the January 2016 Nielsen Audio PPM ratings. Radio 103.9 debuted its current format in July 2014.

WFAS-FM Returns To Westchester

Just two months after Cumulus AC 103.9 WFAS-FM Bronxville, NY completed its move into the New York City market and became Urban AC “Radio 103.9” WNBM, the station’s name and format will return at 2:00 this afternoon. Just yesterday Bridgelight LLC, owners of 94.3 W232AL Pomona, NY was granted a Construction Permit to relocate the translator to the former WFAS-FM tower in White Plains where it will operate with 250 watts at 197 meters rebroadcasting Cumulus’ 95.5 WPLJ New York (Coverage Map). The translator will feed the WFAS-FM programming from 95.5 WPLJ-HD2, which has aired the format as “FAS Online” since 103.9 flipped on July 1.

Radio 103.9 New York Debuts

Update 7/4: Urban AC “Radio 103.9” WNBM Bronxville made its debut at 1:03pm this afternoon. Launching with an hour-long preview of the station’s playlist, WNBM will then air 64 straight hours of mixes for the July 4 weekend. Regular programming led by The Tom Joyner Morning Show will kick off on Monday, July 7. Listen to the launch of Radio 103.9 at FormatChange.com. The former AC format of WFAS-FM signed off just after 12am following a block of goodbye songs ending with Vitamin C’s “Graduation (Friends Forever)”. Suburban Translator Application Presents New York City Implications

Bridgelight LLC has proposed a move of its Pomona, NY translator that could help push along a New York move-in. 94.3 W232AL has applied to move across the Hudson River to the current tower of Cumulus’ 103.9 WFAS-FM Bronxville. From its new location the translator will be licensed to rebroadcast Cumulus’ 1230 WFAS. There will be a huge increase in power from the 3 watts that W232AL currently runs to the 250 watts translator maximum. The application is contingent on the FCC denying two translator applications from the 2003 filing window that are finally going through processing at the agency. Does Cumulus Have Plans For The WRXP Calls After All?

Now that Cumulus has launched Country “Nash-FM” on 94.7 WRXP Newark and the WNSH calls are en-route from their temporary home in Minnesota, it appears that there was a reason that the company brought the WRXP call letters out of mothballs after all. Following registrations of eleven domains on Monday, Cumulus looks to be preparing a flip of suburban AC 103.9 WFAS-FM Bronxville to the WRXP calls and an Alternative or other Rock based format. The company registered 1039WRXP.com, WRXPFM.com, and WRXP1039.com (as well as .net and .org versions of) along with WRXP.net and .org on January 21.
