WALR Drops Tom Joyner & Michael Baisden; Goes Local In Drive Time

Cox Media Group Urban AC “Kiss 104.1” WALR Palmetto/Atlanta GA is revamping its on-air lineup with an emphasis on local shows. Art Terrell and Roy Wood Jr’s “Drive Time Live” moves from 12-3pm to mornings as “The Morning Groove”. The duo had been in afternoon drive until the station became the flagship for Michael Baisden’s relaunched syndicated show in January. They replace Tom Joyner’s syndicated show in morning drive. Wood will continue to mostly host his portions of the show from New York as he will continue to serve as a correspondent for Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. Michael Baisden To Base New Show At Kiss 104.1 Atlanta

Michael Baisden’s return to syndication will be based at Cox Media Group Urban AC “Kiss 104.1” WALR Palmetto/Atlanta. Baisden’s new show will debut on WALR on January 16, 2017 from 3-7pm replacing “Drive Time Live” with Art Terrell and Roy Wood Jr. Terrell and Wood will move to 12-3pm, while midday host Sasha The Diva moves to 9am-12pm. WALR will serve as home base and flagship for the new syndication effort. Baisden has been away from radio since exiting his Cumulus based show in March 2013 and claiming that they locked him out of his studio. FCC Report 7/3: WALR-FM Atlanta To Make Significant Downgrade

After losing its battle to return Urban AC "Kiss 104.1" WALR-FM Palmetto/Atlanta GA to its previous Class C0 status, Cox Media has applied to downgrade it.

WALR Adds Gwinnett County Translator

Cox Media Urban AC “Kiss 104.1” WALR Palmetto, GA is now simulcasting on 93.5 W228CA Suwanee to increase its coverage in Atlanta’s northeastern suburbs. With WALR’s transmitter located in Newnan, southwest of Atlanta, the addition of the 93.5 translator gives the station coverage in the towns of Buford, Gainesville, Lawrenceville, and Suwanee (Coverage Map). Cox acquired W228CA and 97.7 W249CK Buford last year from Tugart Properties for $450,000. The latter translator holds a CP to relocate to 92.5 in Duluth, GA.

The station will adjust from a Class C with 100kW at 381 meters to a C1 with 89kW at 315 meters. Cochise Broadcasting is attempting to change a pair of its Arizona stations. Tucson rimshot 103.7 KXZK Vail has applied to shift from 790 watts at 145 meters to 6kw at 25 meters. 95.3 KCDQ Douglas, AZ applies to relocate to Tombstone where it will upgrade from a Class A with 800 watts at 12 meters to a C0 with 100kW at 300 meters.
