104.3 Panama City

ESPN Radio Returns To Panama City

For the first time since iHeartMedia dropped the network in favor of its Fox Sports Radio on 590 WDIZ in 2014, the ESPN Radio brand is once again available in Panama City FL. Horizon Broadcasting’s 104.3 WGSX Lynn Haven (formerly WBYW) launched on Monday as “104.3 ESPN Panama City” carrying the network feed plus ESPN’s regionally syndicated Paul Finebaum Show from 2-6pm. The new format goes up against Omni Broadcasting’s “93.5 The Ticket” WTKP Port St. Joe. The 104.3 frequency has been mostly silent the past few years. Its most recent identity was a brokered Gospel format as “Power 104.3” from April 2013 to January 2014. The station returned to the air earlier this month with a filler Rock format until Monday’s flip to Sports.

104.3 The Bay Panama City Goes Dark

Citing financial difficulties, Horizon Broadcasting’s “104.3 The Bay” WBYW Lynn Haven/Panama City FL ceased operations on Friday, November 16. The station signed on in August 2011 with an Adult Rock format stretching from the 1970s through 2000s. The Horizon Broadcasting that owns WBYW is unrelated to the Horizon Broadcasting Group that operates stations in Oregon. The station was a stand-alone in the Panama City market although its owners operated additional stations in Florida via various LLC’s including Sports “ESPN 97.9” WTSM Tallahassee, Classic Hits “98.5 The Beach” WSBH Satellite Beach/Melbourne, and the pair of AC “Coast 101.3” WHLG and Urban AC “104.7 The Flame” in Port St. Lucie.
