In the first step of a move that will involve stations in three states, Clear Channel Classic Rock “Rock 104.9” WQNS Waynesville, NC has completed its move closer to Asheville and move to 105.1. The new “Rock 105.1” is now licensed to Woodfin operating with 4.9kW at 62 meters. The station released the following video to spotlight the construction of a new tower for it and sister News/Talk 570 WWNC. The next phase of the multi-station move will see 104.9 WCCP-FM Clemson, SC move to 105.5 and then 96.7 WROO Maudlin/Greenville, SC move to 104.9. A comment on WCCP’s Facebook page states that it plans on boosting its signal this summer.
A pair of Clear Channel stations in the Carolinas have proposed frequency moves pending the approval of a third application to increase power in Georgia. Clear Channel’s “Rock 104.9” WQNS Waynesville, NC would relocate about 25 miles east to a new tower located at the studio complex for Clear Channel Asheville improving coverage of Asheville proper. If approved, the station would change city of license to Woodfin, NC with a frequency change to 105.1. It would operate with 5.3kW at 62 meters.
