Craig Way Leaves KVET/KTKR For Austin Radio Network

Craig Way has exited as afternoon co-host of The Sports Buffet on iHeartMedia’s “1300 The Zone” KVET Austin and “Ticket 760” KTKR San Antonio. Way, who serves as the primary play-by-play voice for The University of Texas football, men’s and women’s basketball, and baseball, will join Austin Radio Network as Sports Director. In his new position he will serve as the liason between IMG Sports, University of Texas, and Austin Radio Network whose stations serve as flagship for UT Sports. Station Sales Week Of 9/16

Genuine Austin Radio is converting its LMA of Sports “104.9 The Horn” KTXX-FM Bee Cave/Austin and 1260 KLGO Elgin TX from Total Austin Sports Radio LLC into a purchase for $3.2 million. Genuine Austin Radio, which operates as Austin Radio Network began operating the stations at the start of 2014. The company also owns Classic Country 99.3 KOKE-FM Thorndale/1490 KTAE Austin. Tony Richards’ Kensington Digital Media is acquiring Classic Country 1010 WHIN/100.7 W264CR Gallatin TN from WHIN Inc. for $325,000. Richards, who also serves as President of Indiana’s Federated Media, also owns Classic Hits “Hippie Radio 94.5” WHPY-FM Bellevue/Nashville. University of Texas Moves Sports To New Austin Flagships

After two decades on iHeartMedia Sports “1300 The Zone” KVET and Country 98.1 KVET-FM Austin, the University of Texas is moving its sports broadcasts to Austin Radio Network’s cluster of stations. The entire cluster will air UT Football games including pre and post-game coverage. That includes Progressive Country 99.3 KOKE-FM Thorndale/98.5 K253AN Sunset Valley/1490 KTAE Austin, Sports “104.9 The Horn” KTXX Bee Cave, Classic Hits “Classic 105.3” K287FG Austin/KTXX-HD4, and “Comedy 1260” KLGO Elgin. “Classic 105.3” will make its debut on Monday with a format focusing on the 1960s through 80s. However it will do so without one half of of the JB & Sandy morning show. Fringe 105.3 Austin Debuts

Update 4/19: After a few minutes of technical issues, Fringe launched around 10:15am with JB & Sandy introducing themselves and the station. Many of the sweepers heard on the station took shots at Entercom and Mix 94.7 for letting the duo go and branding the station as home of commercial radio exiles. Despite the shots at KAMX, the station musically is positioned closer to Emmis AAA 93.3 KGSR and The University of Texas’ 98.9 KUTX. Austin’s Horn Adds Classic Hits To Sports Mix

Update 1/2: With Genuine Austin Radio assuming control of 104.9 KTXX-FM and 1260 KWNX today, the stations have flipped to a hybrid Sports Talk/Classic Hits format. Chip Brown and Chad Hastings’ morning show will expand an hour and run from 6am to 10am. Bucky Godbolt and Erin Hogan will remain in the 3-7pm timeslot. Midday co-host Sean Adams has been let go, while his co-host Adam Loeb will remain with the station in a yet to be disclosed role. The rest of the station’s lineup will feature Classic Hits music replacing ESPN Radio programming. Austin has not had a Classic Hits formatted station since 98.9 KXBT was sold to the University of Texas in 2012. The Border Media Business Trust has begun the process of selling off its Austin cluster piece by piece. “ESPN 1530” KZNX Creedmor has been sold to El Paso based America Telecommunications Group, Inc for $600,000. America Telecommunications Group owns 95.1 K236AY Westlake Hills which had been distributing programming from BMP’s 104.9 KTXX-HD4. 95.1 carried Spanish Women’s Talk programming “Radio Mujer” based out of Promomedio’s 1040 XEBBB Guadalajara, MX which appears to share common management with America Telecommunications Group.
