While 97.5 operates with 250 watts at 225.8 meters from Television Hill in Baltimore City, 104.9 runs only 10 watts at 120.4 meters from a tower in suburban Towson. Apple Community Broadcasting is attempting to bring another translator closer to New York City. While its 106.3 W293BU remains in limbo, its 101.5 W268AN Plainview, NY has applied to move its tower about 12 miles west on the Long Island Expressway. From its new tower, just over the border separating Queens from Nassau County, the translator will operate with 10 watts. Another translator will attempt to move to Austin, TX. Big Bend Broadcasting has applied to move 105.5 K288FJ from Bastrop, TX to Austin where it will rebroadcast an HD subchannel of Border Media’s 92.5 KXXS with 99 watts. Big Bend Broadcasting acquired 105.5 last year in a swap with Emmis for 102.7 K274AX after Emmis was unable to move 105.5 into Austin. The FCC has approved EMF’s application for 102.5 W273BL Akr...[Read More]

The Clear Channel/EMF bulk translator move to the IDS Center in Minneapolis has hit a few hitches. The planned moves of 93.3 W227BF Shoreview, 97.7 K249ED Albertville, 99.9 K260BA Coon Rapids, and 102.5 K273BH Fridley have been hit with informal objections to move by a Jeff Sibert. The move of 97.7 is also being objected by United Audio Corp., the owner of 97.5 KNXR Rochester, MN. Northpine.com has more details on the move, including a part of history repeating itself. These petitions impacted Clear Channel’s frequency swap of 1130 KFAN and 100.3 KTLK earlier this month. A similar Clear Channel/EMF move in Baton Rouge is being protested as well. EMF has applied to upgrade 97.7 K249DV Baker, LA from 13 watts to 250 watts where it will simulcast Clear Channel’s 101.5 WYNK-HD2. Gu...[Read More]

Translator Report 7/21

The FCC has begun to clear its large backlog of pending translator applications in order to ensure some frequencies remain available for LPFM’s in their respective markets. Over 2000 translators applications were wiped out en masse. Among the markets where the translator applications will still be processed are Charlotte, Sacramento, San Antonio, Orlando, Raleigh/Durham, Nashville, Greensboro/Winston-Salem, Oklahoma City, and Memphis. This has no bearing on any existing translator on-air or with a construction permit in these given markets, but could result in a slow down of new move-ins. See the list of markets here. Elsewhere there was a ton of movement in the past 10 days, especially in the growing relationship between Clear Channel and EMF Broadcasting. A number of EMF owned tran...[Read More]
