John Candelaria Bounces From Las Vegas To Detroit To Program WMGC-FM

Beasley Media is transferring John Candelaria from Las Vegas to Classic Hip-Hop “105.1 The Bounce” WMGC-FM Detroit. Candelaria currently serves as Urban Format Captain and OM/PD for Las Vegas market Rhythmic AC “Old School 105.7” KOAS Dolan Springs AZ and Hot AC “Star 107.9” KVGS Meadview AZ. Prior to joining Beasley in 2012, Candelaria spent a decade as OM/PD of Radio One’s Dallas cluster. He succeeds Al Payne at WMGC-FM, who exits the station. Payne comes to Detroit from Louisville where he spent the last five months as Director of Urban Programming for Alpha Media. He has also served as Operations Manager of Radio-One Baltimore and VP/Operations for the Russ Parr Morning Show. 105.1 The Bounce Brings Classic Hip-Hop To Detroit

Greater Media debuted the new format on 105.1 WMGC-FM at noon today as the station flipped to Classic Hip-Hop “105.1 The Bounce“. Debuting the new format with the usual 10,000 songs commercial-free, the new format fills a vacancy between the two Urbans, two Urban ACs, two CHRs, and one Hot AC in the market. The station intends to focus on music from the 1990s and 2000s. The station launched with Eminem’s “Real Slim Shady”, Notorious B.I.G’s “Hypnotize” and Mark Morrison’s “Return Of The Mack” as its first three songs. Detroit Sports 105.1 Drops Format; Begins Stunting

Amidst the other changes taking place at Greater Media, the company abruptly dropped the Sports programming at “Detroit Sports 105.1” WMGC-FM Detroit this evening. WMGC is temporarily rebroadcasting the Oldies programming heard on 94.7 WCSX-HD2 until a new format is launched. The Sports format had launched in August 2013 with much fanfare to take on CBS’ usually market-leading “97.1 The Ticket” WXYT-FM, but failed to gain any momentum despite the addition of Detroit Pistons basketball. In the May 2016 Nielsen Audio PPM ratings WMGC held a 0.9 share of the Detroit audience while WXYT-FM was #1 in the market overall with a 7.3 share. What’s Going On At Greater Media?

A series of reports this week have come out surrounding Greater Media and its operations. Tom Taylor Now reported last Thursday on talk that the company is seeking to sell News/Talk 1110 WBT/99.3 WBT-FM and Hot AC “107.9 The Link” WLNK Charlotte NC stations and that Beasley may be interested. Taylor followed up this morning with a report that Greater Media has had some of its properties on the trading block for at least a year. Greater Media Sports “Detroit Sports 105.1” WMGC Detroit is launching a new afternoon show hosted by station PD Dave Shore and former Detroit Piston Lindsey Hunter. The pair replace Matt Dery and Drew Sharp who are exiting the station. Detroit Sports 105.1 Goes Local In Mornings

Greater Media Sports “Detroit Sports 105.1” WMGC Detroit is expanding its local programming to 6am to 6pm daily. “Sean, Maz & Marc” hosted by Sean Baligian, Tom Mazawey & Marc Fellhauer, who had been heard on the station from 12-3pm will move to mornings from 6-10am starting Tuesday, Februrary 16. That move will push Ryan Ermanni and Rico Beard from 8am-12pm to 10am-2pm and Matt Dery and Drew Sharp up an hour from 3-7pm to 2-6pm. WMGC will drop ESPN Radio’s Mike & Mike in the process. Drew Lane Exits Detroit Sports 105.1

Greater Media Sports “Detroit Sports 105.1” WMGC afternoon host Drew Lane will not renew his contract with the station. Lane has hosted afternoons at the station since its launch in August 2013. Prior to that he co-hosted mornings on sister Rock 101.1 WRIF from 1991 to 2007 and again from 2009 to 2013 with Mike Clark. Greater Media released the following statement regarding Lane’s exit: “Drew is a phenomenal talent and has been a valued member of the Greater Media family for over 21 years. Both sides regret an agreement could not be reached on the direction of the show moving forward. We are truly sorry to see him go and wish him all the best.” 12-3pm host Matt Dery will fill-in on the 3-7pm show until a permanent replacement is named.
