Scott McKenzie, who has hosted mornings at CBS Hot AC “Mix 105.1” WOMX Orlando since 1991, passed away this morning after a seven year battle with non-Hodgkins blood cancer. The 59 year old McKenzie had been off the air at WOMX for the past month getting treatment in Philadelphia. He wrote on the station’s site last Friday that he and his wife called a hospice to setup final arrangements. I sincerely apologize to my friends and family whom I haven’t kept in the loop as chances for success started to slip from our grasp. We literally didn’t know we weren’t going to have a chance to stay in the battle until the last couple of days at Penn and then things, as you can guess, began to get crazy. Your constant love and support has gotten us through so much during this cancer ba...[Read More]
Sort Of. CBS Radio has launched the “Amp Radio” CHR brand in Orlando on the HD2 of Hot AC WOMX “Mix 105.1“. While the AMPRadio1051.com domain we first told you about in February is dormant, the station has an online presence here. WOMX-HD2 previously featured an All-80’s format “Totally Retro”.
The radio industry has been buzzing with possible future locations for CBS’ “Amp Radio” now that KLSX in Los Angeles has flipped. So far, there’s a lot of decoys out there (especially thanks to celebrity blogger trampradio.com) and a number of other people squatting on domains they think may be in the future. However, CBS Radio has registered one other domain that points to a possible future Amp location not on anybody’s radar: Orlando. AmpRadio1051.com was registered yesterday by CBS Radio. The only 105.1’s in CBS’ portfolio are struggling Hot AC “Mix 105.1” WOMX Orlando and more successful Country KNCI Sacramento. WOMX has dropped steadily in the ratings over the course of 2008 and a flip to CHR could help CBS cut down two competitors...[Read More]
