CBS Radio and the Texas Rangers have agreed on a multi-year deal to bring the play-by-play rights to Sports “105.3 The Fan” KRLD-FM Dallas beginning in 2015. KRLD-FM previously aired weekday games in 2009 and 2010, while sister News/Talk 1080 KRLD was the team’s flagship from 1995 until 2010. Since 2011 the games had been heard on “ESPN Dallas 103.3” KESN-FM Allen. Hall-of-Famer Eric Nadel and Matt Hicks will remain as play-by-play voices for the broadcasts. KRLD-FM is also the flagship for Dallas Cowboys football. Any overlapping broadcasts will see the Rangers air on 1080 KRLD. Was Clear Channel’s rebranding of 102.9 KDMX Dallas to “102.9 Now” on Friday in order to protect itself from a coming entry into the local CHR wars by CBS? CBS today has registered a trio of domains via MarkMonitor for potential use in Dallas. AMPRadioDFW.com, AmpRadio1053.com, and 1075AmpRadio.com. There are pros and cons for both frequencies. Sports “105.3 The Fan” KRLD-FM is currently the lowest rated full coverage FM in the market with a mere 1.2 share, however it is the flagship station for the Dallas Cowboys and part of CBS’ growing FM Sports portfolio. KLLI Morning Host Jagger will continue in mornings, while middayers Ben & Skin move to Afternoon Drive replacing Russ Martin. The site is already active on their servers pointing to the normal “website coming soon” note that their provider uses before activating a site. In recent months CBS has flipped FM Talkers in Detroit and Baltimore to Sports with both flips occurring on Mondays. We’ll see how this plays out in a market with two existing Sports stations.
With all the hoopla surrounding the departure of Howard Stern to Sirius at the end of the year, many radio industry pundits have wondered what Infinity Broadcasting has planned to replace Stern. The pieces have been slowly coming together. Today, Infinity will take control of 106.9 KIFR San Francisco (formerly Family Radio KEAR-FM) and launch a stunt in preparation of the debut of “106.9 Free-FM”.
