Chesapeake-Portsmouth Broadcasting has flipped half of its Christian AC “The Promise” simulcast in Jacksonville to Classic Country. The “Jax Country” format that debuted on 105.3 WYKB Fernandina Beach in October 2017 is now simulcasting on 94.1 WSOS-FM Fruit Cove giving it nearly full market coverage between the two signals. The Christian AC format remains on 100.7 WMUV-FM Brunswick GA. WYKB has been slowly growing in the ratings as it has trended up 0.8 – 1.0 – 1.2 over the past three months. WSOS-FM/WMUV-FM do not appear in the publicly listed ratings.
Tony Quartarone’s Multimedia Communications failed to close on its purchase 105.3 WZDJ Fernandina Beach/Jacksonville FL and the station has dropped its Classic Dance “DJ 105.3” identity that it debuted in July. Quartarone had filed in March to acquire then “CBS Sports 105.3” WJSJ from Neal Ardman’s NIA Broadcasting for $1.3 million. After stunting for two weeks the station debuted its “DJ 105.3” identity in mid-July as the company began an LMA while awaiting closing of the acquisition. NIA notified the FCC on December 16 that the sale had failed to close following the grant of an extension in August. The LMA expired with the end of 2016. The new brand debuted after two weeks of stunting asking listeners to “Build Your Station” and a launch weekend featuring a 300 song countdown of the top dance songs of the 70s, 80s and 90s. Station Sales Former Urban “Kiss 101.7” WJKS Wilmington DE owner Tony Quartarone is returning to radio as his Multimedia Communications is purchasing “CBS Sports 105.3” WJSJ Fernandina Beach/Jacksonville FL from Neal Ardman’s NIA Broadcasting for $1.3 million. Multimedia, held by Quartarone and a group of Delaware based parters, has until August 1 to raise the financing for the purchase. The Affiliated Media Trust, spinning off the properties formerly held by the bankrupt Graham Newspapers sells a four station cluster located halfway between Abilene and Dallas TX to the James Moser led Palo Pinto Communications for $95,400. Silent 105.3 WJSJ Fernandina Beach/Jacksonville FL has returned to the air as “CBS Sports Radio 105.3“. The station is being operated by Ardman Broadcasting via Time Brokerage Agreement. Ardman also operated the station during its previous “Coast 105.3” Hot AC format before the TBA ended on April 1 and the station went silent. WJSJ is owned by Tama Broadcasting, which is in bankruptcy receivership led by Scott Savage. WJSJ joins a crowded Sports battle in Jacksonville that includes iHeartMedia’s “Sportsradio 930” WFXJ and Seven Bridges Radio’s “1010XL” WJXL/92.5 WJXL-FM.
Update 6/5: The imaging-less CHR format that debuted in late May is the new format for WJSJ. A Facebook page brands the station as “Coast 105.3” positioned as “Nassau County’s Hit Music Station”. Nassau County is just north of Jacksonville where WJSJ’s signal is based. It gives the market a third CHR along with Cox Media’s 95.1 WAPE and Clear Channel’s “97.9 Kiss-FM” WNWW. Just two months after flipping from Spanish Tropical to Classic Hits, 105.3 WJSJ Fernandina Beach/Jacksonville dropped its “105.3 The Mix” identity on Monday. At 2pm, the station flipped to Classic Country “Real Country 105.3“. Posting on the former format’s Facebook page that the change was related to a sale of the station. The new format is focusing on Country hits from the 1970’s through 90’s and is teasing the pending debut of Leroy Boomer in mornings. Boomer, who hosted mornings at Clear Channel’s 99.1 WQIK from 1998 to 2012, currently hosts afternoons at “K-Bay 106.3” WKBX Kingsland, GA. Mix afternoon host Chris Wayne exits with the change.
