An Alternative music battle has broken out in Norfolk VA as iHeartMedia flips CHR “Now 105” WNOH Windsor to Alternative “Alt 105.3” at 2pm today. The change comes after stunting with a loop of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” since midnight and gives a direct in-format competitor to Sinclair Communications’ “96X” 96.1 WROX-FM Exmore. “Alt 105.3” is debuting with 10,000 songs commercial-free. WNOH had a 1.4 share in the September 2017 Nielsen Audio ratings as part of a three-way CHR battle with Max Media’s “Hot 100” 100.5 WVHT and Entercom’s “Z104” 104.5 WNVZ. Clear Channel CHR “The New 105.3” WVMA Norfolk has rebranded as “Now 105.3“. WVMA has struggled to take off since its flip to CHR in April 2012. It continues to lag well behind Entercom Rhythmic CHR “Z104” WNVZ and Max Media Mainstream CHR “Hot 100.5” WVHT.
Clear Channel Classic Hits “Magic 105.3” WVMA Norfolk, VA becomes the third CHR in the Tidewater as it becomes “The New 105.3“. Running with 10,000 songs commercial free, the station is pitted up against Entercom’s “Z104” WNVZ and Max Media’s “Hot 100.5” WVHT along with two Hot AC’s for similar demographics. The Hot AC’s are Clear Channel’s Rhythmic AC “Movin 107.7” WMOV-FM, Entercom Hot AC “94.9 The Point” WPTE. (We originally had Sinclair’s “96X” listed as Modern AC in this entry. They had shifted back to Alternative a few months ago) WVMA had been battling Max Media’s “92.9 The Wave” WVBW for the Classic Hits audience. In the February PPM’s, Mag...[Read More]
