Classic Hip-Hop Vibe Comes To The Twin Cities

Cumulus has launched the second Classic Hip-Hop station in Minneapolis/St. Paul. As we predicted in Daily Domains a couple weeks ago, “105 The Ticket” 105.1 WGVX Lakeville/105.3 WRXP Cambridge/105.7 WGVZ Eden Prairie/Minneapolis dropped its CBS Sports Radio programming at 3pm central time to become Classic Hip-Hop “105 The Vibe“. The trimulcast joins iHeartMedia’s “Hot 102.5” K273BH Fridley/97.1 KTCZ-HD3 Minneapolis, which debuted in early June. What makes the situation in the Twin Cities unique is that the market does not have a single commerical Urban, Urban AC or Rhythmic CHR. WGVX/WGVZ/WRXP dropped their local afternoon programming to run the national CBS Sports Radio lineup in June. The stations registered a paltry 0.1 share in the July Nielse...[Read More]

Minneapolis’ Ticket Drops Local Programming

Cumulus Sports trimulcast “105 The Ticket” 105.1 WGVX Lakeville/105.3 Cambridge/105.7 WGVZ Eden Prairie/Minneapolis, MN has dropped its local talk programming. 2-4pm host Bob Sansevere and 4-6pm co-hosts Mike Morris and Ben Holsen are out with the change, which sees the station go to the CBS Sports Radio Network programming around the clock. Program Director Scott Jameson told the St. Paul Pioneer-Press that the stations will “provide an alternative to the other two local stations” and “focus on the network product and provide it to people who prefer that.” The stations will retain local high school sports coverage on weekends. The stations have registered just a 0.3 share in the last three Nielsen Audio PPM ratings, placing it well behind iHeartMedia’s “100.3 KFAN&...[Read More]

Cumulus Debuts 105 The Ticket Minneapolis

Update 4/1: At 11am, the stunting came to an end on the WGVX/WGVZ/WRXP trimulcast as Cumulus debuted Sports “105 The Ticket“. The stations will run the CBS Sports Radio Network in its entirety. They join a Sports battle in the Twin Cities that includes Clear Channel’s “100.3 KFAN” KFXN, Hubbard’s “1500 ESPN” KSTP, and plenty of Minnesota Twins talk on Modern AC “96.3 K-Twin” KTWN. Update 3/30: “Love 105” is no more. At 8:00 this morning the trimulcast dropped the AC format (The station hasn’t been Oldies in about a year, despite what other sites claim) and has begun stunting with a broad music mix. No imaging is present between the songs. Among the artists heard so far are Harry Belafonte, Queen, Fats Domino, Cam...[Read More]

Love Adjusts In The Twin Cities

Cumulus’ Soft Oldies “Love 105” trimulcast in the Twin Cities revamped its music today to Mainstream AC. The Minneapolis/St. Paul market has been without a Mainstream AC since CBS’ 102.9 WLTE flipped to Country on Christmas Day. Since that time Love 105 has jumped from a 2.1 in the Holiday PPM monthly to a 3.1 in February. The Love 105 trimulcast is made up of 105.1 WGVX Lakeville, MN which serves the southern suburbs, 105.3 WGVY Cambridge north of the cities, and 105.7 WGVZ Eden Prairie which broadcasts from the IDS Center in Minneapolis proper. The three stations have operated as a trio since 1996. We had been following Cumulus’ registration of AllNews1057.com for these stations. While we’re not ruling out the possibility that this is a decoy shift to ...[Read More]

Cumulus Planning All-News In Atlanta, LA & Minneapolis?

Update 4/27: Cumulus officially announces 106.7 WYAY Atlanta will flip to All-News in Mid-May. Update 4/9: A few more domains registered over the weekend clarify the story a bit. More domains were added with AllNews prefixes for 680, 1230, 1340, 93.7, 100.5, and 101.5. Pair those with the previous 98.9, 99.7, and 106.7 and you have every station operated by Cumulus or Dickey Broadcasting in Atlanta with the exception of 97.9. This could be Cumulus trying to mask the potential destination of the News station in the market or simply playing games with us. These additional domains should have no effect on the registrations for 95.5 Los Angeles and 105.7 Minneapolis. We were also reminded that Cumulus is in the process of launching an in-house Traffic service with Radiate Media. John Dickey ha...[Read More]
