Vince Coglianese Joins WMAL As Morning Host

Cumulus Conservative Talk 630 WMAL Washington DC/105.9 WMAL-FM Woodbridge VA has named Vince Coglianese as its new morning co-host along side Mary Walter. Coglianese joins WMAL from conservative website The Daily Caller where he replaced site founder Tucker Carlson as Editor-In-Chief when Carlson exited to focus on his Fox News Channel program last November. Coglianese has previous radio experience in Morehead City NC where he previously hosted a show on 107.1 WTKF. He replaces Brian Wilson on WMAL’s morning show following his exit in May. Talent Cuts At CBS, Cumulus & Entercom

While iHeartMedia has made the most news lately in terms of staffing cuts, recent downsizing moves have been made the past few days at Cumulus Media, CBS Radio, and Entercom. Two major market Cumulus News/Talk stations have shed talent in the past couple of days. Morning host Brian Wilson is out at 630 WMAL/105.9 WMAL-FM Washington DC after six years at the station. Recently added co-host Mary Walter remains in place on “Mornings On The Mall”. Ron Kuby exits as 12-3pm co-host at 770 WABC New York. Kuby and longtime co-host Curtis Sliwa returned to WABC in January 2014 when Rush Limbaugh moved to iHeartMedia’s 710 WOR. Cumulus Conservative Talk 630 WMAL Washington DC/105.9 WMAL-FM Woodbridge VA has named Mary Walter as the new co-host of its “Mornings on the Mall”. Walter will join incumbent host Brian Wilson following the move of Larry O’Connor from mornings to afternoons at the start of 2017. Cumulus Renews Rush Limbaugh For Three Years

Cumulus Media and Premiere Networks have agreed on a three year contract to keep Rush Limbaugh on 33 of the company’s stations. The new deal will keep the show on Cumulus owned stations through the end of 2019 including 890 WLS Chicago, 820 WBAP Dallas, 760 WJR Detroit, 560 KSFO San Francisco, and 630/105.9 WMAL Washington DC. The renewal comes without the animosity of the last extension in 2013 that saw Cumulus threaten to drop Limbaugh as it did to Sean Hannity before agreeing a renewal in all markets except New York. Cumulus Conservative Talk 630 WMAL Washington DC/105.9 WMAL-FM Woodbridge VA is moving morning co-host Larry O’Connor to afternoons to host a daily show from 3-6pm starting Monday, January 2. Westwood One has announced it will begin syndicating conservative talker Chris Plante nationally from 9am-12pm eastern beginning Monday, January 2, 2017. Cumulus Media has filled its long-vacant Market Manager position in Washington DC. Jake McCann has been promoted to the VP/Market Manager position from his role as Vice President of Sales for the cluster. McCann replaces Mark O’Brien whose contract expired at the end of February 2015 and later joined CBS Radio as VP of political sales. Michael Savage To Move To Afternoons In January

Cumulus Media Networks has announced that Michael Savage’s “Savage Nation” will shift into the afternoon timeslot in January. Savage will take the 3-6pm Eastern/12-3pm Pacific spot opened up on Cumulus owned stations by Sean Hannity not resigning with the company earlier this month. Cumulus claims that Savage will launch in afternoons on 200+ stations including 60 Cumulus owned stations. Among the affiliates that will be carrying Savage live are 770 WABC New York, 890 WLS Chicago, 820/96.7 WBAP Dallas, 630/105.9 WMAL Washington, 760 WJR Detroit, and 710/103.7 KCMO Kansas City. Sean Hannity Confirms Cumulus Departure

While it has been an unstated fact for the past several weeks, Premiere Radio Networks and Sean Hannity have confirmed they will not be reupping with their current Cumulus owned affiliates at the end of the year. Telling InsideRadio that, “We fired them weeks ago,” the move coincides with Cumulus resigning Rush Limbaugh for all their affiliates except in New York. Hannity will make the move to Clear Channel’s 710 WOR along with Limbaugh and could easily make the same move to 910 KKSF San Francisco from Cumulus’ 560 KSFO that Rush made in January 2012. Limbaugh To Remain On Cumulus Stations; Except New York

At the beginning of his program today Rush Limbaugh announced that he has signed a three year extension to keep his program on Cumulus owned stations across the country. That includes 890 WLS Chicago, 820/96.7 WBAP Dallas, 630/105.9 WMAL Washington, and 760 WJR Detroit. The one exception to that will be in New York, where Limbaugh will move from Cumulus’ 770 WABC to Clear Channel’s 710 WOR on January 1, 2014. It is expected that Sean Hannity will depart Cumulus’ stations at the end of the year and be replaced by Michael Savage in the 3-6pm daypart. More details as they become available.

Report: Cumulus To Drop Limbaugh & Hannity

Update 8/16:On his program Thursday night, Michael Savage told his listeners that he is the heir apparent to Hannity’s timeslot on Cumulus’ stations and predicted he will move to afternoons by the end of the year. Politico.com claims that while Cumulus is likely to drop Sean Hannity from its stations, it was likely to come to terms to continue airing Rush Limbaugh on “virtually” all of his current affiliates. Update 7/29: Mediaite.com has followed up on the original Politico report stating that Premiere has “48 hours to stop Cumulus from dropping them.” There’s no word if the end of July drop-dead date for negotiations comes from Cumulus, Premiere, or both. Update 5/26: Coast To Coast has been dropped by Cumulus’ 560 KSFO San Francisco. Red Eye Radio slides from sister 810 KGO, which picks up Bloomberg Business News for overnights. Coast To Coast will likely reappear on Clear Channel’s 910 KKSF. Update 4/10: Add KLIF Dallas to the stations dropping Coast To Coast. With the station’s recent shift to News based programming, the station has dropped Coast To Coast and Glenn Beck.
