More Secret Format Changes Of 2016

A couple weeks ago we rounded up a number of format changes that took place under the radar. Since that report we’ve been tipped off to a number of additional changes. Shortly after Point Broadcasting closed on its acquisition of Rock 99.1 KXFM Santa Maria CA on August 31, the station dropped its format and is currently running a jockless/commercial-free version of the Rhythmic Oldies “Old School” format it operates on 104.7 KOCP Oxnard and 104.7 KQIE Redlands/Riverside and a few other stations in Southern California. Townsquare Media CHR “PopCrush 97.1” KKBR Billings MT relaunched in July as “97.1 Kiss-FM“. Mountain Broadcasting debuted Oldies “Boomer 106.3” K292GH/KMSO-HD3 Missoula MT. The Secret Format Changes Of 2015

Over the past week we have become aware of a few format changes that have taken place over recent months that have not been reported anywhere. Starting in Lubbock TX, Walker Broadcasting & Communications gave 1420 KJDL its third format of the calendar year. Originally CHR “Z98.5” paired with K253BD Lubbock, the station assumed the Alternative format and “Edge” branding from 105.7 KRBL Idalou in February. After the translator moved to 98.7 as K254CI, the format was flipped at some point in August to Classic Country “Raider 98.7“. Station Moves Lazer Broadcasting Regional Mexican “Radio Lazer 93.1” KXSM Hollister/Salinas, CA applies to change city-of-license to Chualar from a new tower site. From the new location KXSM would operate with 8kW at 100 meters. It would be short-spaced, but not overlap with iHeartMedia’s 92.7 KTOM Marina and American General Media’s 93.5 KZOZ San Luis Obispo. Lazer also has a pending 2013 application to relocate 105.9 KMLY Carmel Valley to the same tower on 95.1 licensed to Gonzales, CA (Coverage Map). Family Life Ministries’ 107.7 WCIG Dallas/Wilkes-Barre, PA applies to shift northeast to a new tower site where it will operate with 2.45kW at 158 meters (Coverage Map).
