The long and winding road for Michael and Tammy Celenza’s Apple 107.1 to move and upgrade 106.3 W292DV New York has come to an end. John Bridge’s Big Apple Broadcasting has agreed to purchase the translator for $3.5 million. Bridge acquired 103.9 W280EM Chicago earlier this year, which is soon set to launch as Urban Jazz “The Groove“. W292DV is best known for its ill-fated attempt to relocate to 4 Times Square in 2011 where it was to be operated by Clear Channel. That move was shot down due to interference complaints by Press Communications’ WKMK Eatontown, NJ. The translator finally settled in Long Island City, Queens where it currently operates with 4 watts at 200 meters (Coverage Map) via STA with an application to make that permanent. W292DV currently airs...[Read More]
Translator Moves Entercom has agreed to purchase the Construction Permit for 105.7 W289CB Milwaukee from Kevin Youngers for $300,000. As part of the sale, Entercom has applied to relocate the translator to the tower of 103.7 WXSS where it will operate with 240 watts at 284 meters rebroadcasting 103.7 WXSS-HD3 (Coverage Map). Apple 107.1 Inc. has made yet another modification to its application for 106.3 W292DV New York as it changes the originating station to Multicultural Broadcasting’s 1660 WWRU Jersey City. The translator will operate with 40 watts at 200 meters (Coverage Map). Alpine Broadcasting is attempting to move two of its translators into Kansas City, or in this case Kansas Cities. 92.7 K224ET Knob Noster, MO seeks to relocate to Kansas City, KS where it will rebroadcast C...[Read More]
Following their acquisition of 102.9 WDRC-FM Hartford, Connoisseur Media has filed to adjust the patterns of it and adjacent channel sister 103.1 WBZO Bay Shore, NY. Both stations will retain their current tower heights and power; 19.5kW at 247 meters for WDRC-FM and 1.55kW at 141 meters for WBZO. WDRC-FM will adjust from non-directional to a directional array, while WBZO will shift to non-directional. The move will allow WBZO to put a city-grade signal over the north shore of Long Island with less interference from WDRC-FM. After its long saga to move into Manhattan came to an end, 106.3 W292DV New York moved to Long Island City, Queens with 4 watts at 200 meters. After building out that facility and testing, the translator now seeks to upgrade to 40 watts from the same height and facilit...[Read More]
As the FCC prepares to clear out the frozen 2003 Translator applications and open up the LPFM filing window later this year, many existing translators are hurrying to get their upgrades into the system. The past two weeks have been filled with dozens of upgrades applications. Starting in New York where 106.3 W292DV is trying once again to get relocated into the city. After discarding its hopes to operate in the city last year following interference claims the translator was unable to build out its CP on the Queens/Nassau county border. The translator has now applied for an STA to return to Long Island City, Queens with 4 watts to keep the license alive. EMF Broadcasting is seeking to move 100.7 K264AF Guasti, CA into parts of Los Angeles. The translator will operate with 235 watts from the...[Read More]
A high profile translator move in New York is now retreating to Long Island, while non-commercial upgrades could bring new signals to Chicago and Los Angeles. Chicago Public Media has applied to move 91.3 W217BM Elgin, IL to the downtown Chicago where it will operate with 99 watts from the tower of 91.5 WBEZ. It obviously will not be remaining one frequency off of its originating station, but can use that move to establish itself in the new location and then jump to a clearer frequency, perhaps 91.9?. The move should establish a city signal for “Vocalo” which currently airs on WBEZ-HD2 and 89.5 WBEW Valparaiso, IN. Life On The Way Communications’ 91.1 K216FM Van Nuys, CA to the Hollywood Hills where its 10 watts will put a service contour over West Hollywood and Beverly H...[Read More]
Applications The saga of 106.3 W292DV to get on the air in New York has taken another turn. After applying in October to 104.7, the translator has amended its application to stay on 106.3 albeit from a new location in Long Island City, Queens with lower power. If accepted it will operate with 40 watts with city grade coverage over the bulk of Manhattan. Instead of rebroadcasting Clear Channel’s 106.7 WLTW-HD2, the application changes the originating station to 93.5 WVOX New Rochelle, NY. EMF Broadcasting has applied to move 91.9 W220DM Parma, OH to 92.7 due to displacement from WKJA Brunswick, OH. As part of the move, it will upgrade from 10 to 250 watts and move its transmitter to downtown Cleveland. The originating station will be an HD subchannel of Clear Channel’s 98.1 WKDD...[Read More]
Apple 107.1 and Clear Channel have applied to move its silent W292DV New York from 106.3 to 104.7. The translator was forced off 106.3 after a few days on air due to interference with WKMK in Eatontown, NJ. The move to 104.7 will place the translator in between Clear Channel’s 104.3 WAXQ and 105.1 WWPR on the dial eliminating the possibility of a second adjacent interference claim. With the proposed move to 104.7, the translator will drop from 99 to 70 watts with a directional null away from “K104” WSPK Poughkeepsie to the north. Read the petition and reasoning behind the proposed move here.
Update 5/11: And another turn of events with the 106.3 translator. Following complaints from Press Communications’ “Thunder 106.3” WKMK Eatontown, NJ for interference issues, W293BU has temporarily gone off the air. This could end up being a positive for both WKMK and W293BU. Our friends at The Virtual Engineer tell us that If Press Communications can prove to the FCC that it is being interfered by the translator, the translator can apply for a waiver from the FCC to move to a clearer frequency outside of the usual 3 step jump. There is precedence as 102.5 W273AT Milwaukee is in the process of moving to 93.9 due to interference it cause to “Life 102.5” WNWC-FM Madison, WI. If this scenario plays out Press, Clear Channel, and Apple 107.1 Inc.can all declare the...[Read More]
