107.1 WLIR Flips To Classic Hits Real-FM

Update 4/20:After launching with a retrospective of the original 1980’s Alternative 92.7 WLIR-FM Garden City NY and its later incarnation in the late 90s/early 2000s, VMT Media’s 107.1 WLIR-FM Hampton Bays and 96.9 W245BA Manorville NY flipped to Classic Hits “107.1/96.9 Real FM“. Positioning as “Long Island’s Real Mix of Classic Hits”, the station is focusing on hits of the 1970s through 90s with an emphasis on the 1980s. WLIR Loses Its Hope

VMT Media’s 107.1 WLIR Hampton Bays NY is on the verge of a format change. WLIR dropped its Christian “Hope Radio” programming on January 1 and is currently running an unbranded mix of Oldies and Classic Rock along with 96.9 W245BA Manorville NY (which had been simulcasting Soft AC 94.7 WLIX-LP until that station’s sign-off on December 31). VMT Media, headed by Vincent Trapiani, bought out Richard Anderson’s Holding Out Hope Church’s 51% share of the station last May for assumption of debt and a three year non-compete agreement that started on January 1. Robert and Tor Ingstad are breaking up their Last Frontier Mediactive group in Fairbanks AK. Tor Ingstad Licenses will pay $361,390 to acquire Sports “ESPN 820” KCBF, Country “Wild 94.3” KWDD, and CHR “K-Wolf 98.1” KWLF Fairbanks. Tor will also purchase Classic Country “93.5 Chet-FM” KDJF Ester from Tanana Valley Radio for $275,000. Tor Ingstad owns 50% of Basin Mediactive’s cluster in Klamath Falls OR and nineteen stations in Iowa and Minnesota under the names Ingstad Brothers Broadcasting and Iowa City Broadcasting. Pillar Of Fire Christian AC “Star 99.1” WAWZ Zarepath, NJ/New York is expanding its programming to Long Island on August 1. Pillar of Fire will begin leasing Livingstone Broadcasting’s 107.1 WLIR-FM Hampton Bays and its network of translators across Long Island to expand its “uplifting music and personalities to a whole new audience of Christian music fans on Long Island” as “Star 107.1“. Champions Radio LI Returns To Religion

Sports “Champions Radio” 107.1 WLIR Hampton Bays/96.9 W245BA Manorville, NY has dropped its format and returned to simulcasting the Christian “Hope Radio” network. Champions Radio debuted last August with a mix of local programming and a simulcast of 98.7 WEPN-FM New York programming. Newsday’s Neal Best reports that the station had dropped its local hosts last month and negotiated an early out of its contract with ESPN. Hope Radio is now heard on WLIR and five translators covering much of Long Island.

ESPN New York To ReAdd Long Island Simulcast

Newsday reports that “ESPN New York” 98.7 WEPN-FM New York will add a partial simulcast on 107.1 WLIR-FM Hampton Bays and 96.9 W245BA Manorville, NY next week. The simulcast will be part of a new station billed as “Champions Radio“. The station will feature a mix of locally originating programming and content from WEPN-FM including all programming from 12pm to 12am weekdays and most of the weekends. The station will also feature Stony Brook University and local high school play-by-play. It will also return ESPN programming to the Long Island frequency where it was previously heard from 2008 until its sale to Livingstone Broadcasting in 2011 when the station became the flagship for its Christian “Hope Radio” network. One week after announcing an LMA to simulcast on 1040 WCHR Flemington, NJ, Disney’s “1050 ESPN” WEPN New York adds a third signal with an LMA of 107.1 WLIR Hampton Bays, NY. WLIR covers the eastern end of Long Island as well as being audible in portions of Southern Connecticut. WLIR dropped its Alternative Rock format earlier this month and has been simulcasting sister Dance “Party 105.3” WDRE. The ESPN simulcast will begin on Monday, January 21.
