Station Sales 5/5: $1.8 Million Deal For Phoenix Translator

Translator Sales Hubbard Broadcasting is purchasing 92.7 K224CJ Phoenix AZ from Happy Dog Communications for $1.8 million. Should the deal close it will set a record for highest price for a single translator as Elroy Smith’s $4.6 million deal for a Chicago translator and Big Apple Broadcasting’s $3.5 million deal in New York both collapsed prior to closing. Hubbard already operates K224CJ as “Oldies 92.7” rebroadcasting 1440 KAZG Scottsdale via 93.3 KDKB-HD2 Mesa. Jaemin and Hyunjoo Chang purchase 95.3 K237FL Woodlake CA from Rudex Broadcasting for $150,000. Birmingham Mountain Radio Comes To FM

AAA will return to the FM dial in Birmingham today as webcaster “Birmingham Mountain Radio” begins simulcasting its programming on 107.3 W297BF Birmingham via Summit Media’s WZNN-HD2. The change, which will take place at noon today, will displace the national ESPN programming feed which had been carried on the translator and 1320 WENN. Birmingham Mountain Radio is a fully staffed webcaster that debuted in December 2010 to fill the gap left by the flip of “Live 100.5” WWMM to News/Talk earlier that year. ESPN Moves In Birmingham

ESPN Radio has dropped its affiliation with Cumulus’ 94.5 WJOX-FM Birmingham and shifted to a pair of Cox stations in the market. Cox’ “97.3 The Zone” WZNN picks up the ESPN national feed for nights and weekends. 1320 WENN and new translator 107.3 W294BL will carry ESPN programming around the clock. Classic Hip-Hop “Power 102.1” W270BW will continue to air the programming that had originated at 1320, with programming now fed off of an HD subchannel of one of Cox’ FMs. Back at WJOX, the ESPN programming will be replaced with Fox Sports Radio until the CBS Sports Radio Network debuts in January.

Following the shutdown of Martz Communication’s pair of HD fed translators, the company has begun selling off its properties in the market. 97.5 W248AQ Harrison MI has been sold to Salem Communications for $250,000 who will use it to rebroadcast Conservative Talk “1400 The Patriot” WDTK. Martz had purchased the translator last fall for $32,000 and had gained a CP to move it to 92.7 with 250 watts. Following the debut of “ESPN Deportes Chicago” 97.5 W248AO, EMF will be pairing with Clear Channel to launch a second translator in the city. 96.7 W244BQ Park Ridge has applied to operate with 85 watts at 1181 feet with a directional antenna pointed northwest away from WSSR Joliet.
