After flipping from a simulcast of Urban AC “Majic 107.5” WAMJ Roswell to Classic Hip-Hop “Boom 102.9” W275BK Decatur at the beginning of this year, Radio-One is reversing course on 97.5 WUMJ Fayetteville GA. WUMJ covers the south side of the Atlanta market and the move comes after declining ratings for WAMJ. After stating in January that, “We found that almost all of our listeners of MAJIC 107.5/97.5 were only listening on 107.5 since we upgraded our signal three years ago,” VP/GM Tim Davies reversed stance in today’s announcement commenting, “One signal wasn’t strong enough to reach all of our audience. Our South Atlanta audience missed listening to The Steve Harvey Morning Show, Maria More and The Ride with SiMan and Chubb Rock in th...[Read More]
Radio-One has shifted 97.5 WUMJ Fayetteville/Atlanta from a simulcast of Urban AC “Majic 107.5” WAMJ Roswell to one of Classic Hip-Hop “Boom 102.9” W275BK Decatur. The change is coordinated with the debut tomorrow of the syndicated Ed Lover Show in mornings on Radio-One’s Classic Hip-Hop stations. The addition of WUMJ increases Boom’s coverage to the south of Atlanta including the Peachtree City and Newnan areas (Coverage Map). General Manager Tim Davies stated in the press release that most of Majic’s audience moved over to 107.5 following the upgrade of its signal three years ago making 97.5 expendable. In conjunction with the launch of the Ed Lover Show live from Atlanta, Boom 102.9 FM is now simulcasting on 97.5 FM. The Ed Lover Show features C...[Read More]
Radio-One has completed the shift of programming changes in Atlanta exactly as we predicted on January 19. “Praise 97.5” WPZE has shifted to 102.5, while 97.5 becomes WUMJ and becomes a complete simulcast of 107.5, which takes the WAMJ calls from 102.5 along with the syndicated Steve Harvey and Michael Baisden shows and local night host Si-Man.
Update 1/28/09: As expected, WJZZ became Urban AC “Magic 107.5” today at 12am. Net-Gnome Update 1/19/09:Over the weekend Radio-One registered a trio of domains that hint towards their plans in the Atlanta market. Praise1025.com seems to hint at Gospel “Praise 97.5” WPZE moving to the 102.5 frequency now hosting Talk/Urban Oldies “Grown Folks Radio” WAMJ. MagicATL.com and MajicATL.com hints at WAMJ reclaiming one of its former monikers “Magic”. We’re going to have to assume that WAMJ’s format will move to a simulcast on 97.5 (which rimshots Atlanta from the southwest) and 107.5 (which rimshots Atlanta from the northeast). Original Entry 1/14/09: Another exodus from Smooth Jazz is coming as Radio-One is planning to flip 107.5 WJZZ A...[Read More]
