South Stunt To Lead To Talk 99.5 Birmingham

The broad Southern Rock based “99.5 The South” format at WZRR Birmingham was too good to be true as the station will flip to Talk “Talk 99.5” on Tuesday morning. The format will be a repackaged version of what currently airs on 1070 WAPI with a revamped lineup. Matt Murphy, who had been hosting 9am-1pm on WAPI as well as being syndicated to sisters 740 WVNN/92.5 WVNN-FM Huntsville and 1440 WLWI Montgomery will move to 6-10am while ending his show in the other markets. Andrea Lindenberg, who had been hosting 9-11am on Crawford’s “Superstation 101.1” WYDE-FM will join WZRR/WAPI for a 10-11am show after co-hosting Murphy’s morning show. Update 8/1: As it prepares to flip to ESPN Radio, 100.5 WAPI-FM has changed call letters to WJQX. The station will officially be branded as “JOX 2: 100.5 ESPN” to tie into the branding of sister 94.5 WJOX-FM. That move could lead to ramifications for Townsquare Media’s 99.1 WDGM Tuscaloosa. The station, branded as “99.1 The Deuce“, airs some programming from WJOX dating back to when it was also owned by Cumulus.
