Townsquare Media has flipped Sports “ESPN 1170” KBOB Davenport, IA/Quad Cities to Classic Country. Utilizing Westwood One’s “Real Country” network, this is the third format for KBOB this year. Then utilizing the KJOC calls, the station flipped from the now defunct True Oldies Channel to Sports on May 1. In June the Sports format began simulcasting on 93.5 KQCS, which has since taken the KJOC call letters from 1170. The new Classic Country format on KBOB will flank recently launched Country “104.9 The Hawk” KQCS.
Just six weeks after flipping 1170 KJOC Davenport, IA from Oldies to ESPN Radio, Townsquare Media is giving the station an FM simulcast. Hot AC “Star 93.5” KQCS Bettendorf, IA will drop its format and flip to a simulcast of KJOC as “ESPN 93.5FM“. KQCS registered a 1.5 share in the Fall 2013 Nielsen Audio ratings. For the first time in the Quad Cities market FM radio will have a 24-hour sports station. The upcoming demise of Scott Shannon’s True Oldies Channel has led to a format change in the Quad Cities as Townsquare Media flipped “True Oldies 1170” KJOC Davenport, IA to Sports as “ESPN 1170” today. KJOC will air the national ESPN programming lineup in its entirety while remaining the local affiliate for Chicago Cubs baseball and Iowa State University sports. This is the second run for Sports with the ESPN affiliation for KJOC. The station previously carried the network from 1993 to 2003 before flipping to News/Talk and then Oldies.
