Clear Channel Launches Radio 102.3 Portland

Update 3:50pm: Clear Channel indeed launched Alternative “Radio 102.3” K272EL at 12:00pm Pacific Time. The station is not yet streaming, but says that will be up by the end of the day. Original Report 9/9 12:15pm: Clear Channel News/Talk 1190 KEX Portland is about to lose its FM simulcast. 102.3 K272EL Portland/100.3 KKRZ-HD2 will soon flip to Alternative as “Radio 102.3“. The move will position the translator between Entercom Alternative 94.7 KNRK and Alpha Broadcasting AAA 101.9 KINK. KEX began simulcasting on 102.3 in April 2011 after Alpha moved 750 KXL to 101.1. In the August PPM rankings, KXL’s 6.2 share placed it well ahead of KEX’s 2.3. K272EL’s 99 watt signal covers the majority of Portland and its adjacent suburbs.

The exodus of News/Talk to the FM band continues as Clear Channel adds FM Translators for two more of its AM’s. The 99 watt translator covers Portland proper, but will not have the full market coverage of KXL-FM. The move is made possible via an arrangement with Way-FM Media. Way gave Clear Channel access to 102.3 in exchange for Way to program 105.9 KFBW-HD2 as a feeder for its 104.5 K283BL Beaverton. That station debuted on April 1 as Christian AC “104.5 Way-FM“. A similar arrangement with Reach Communications brings 610 WIOD Miami to 100.3 W262AN Tamarac, FL. The signal covers much of th...[Read More]
