iHeartMedia has appointed Robert Sanchez as Vice President of News/Talk/Sports for its Boston cluster overseeing Conservative Talk 680 WRKO, News 1030 WBZ, and Conservative Talk “Talk 1200” WXKS. Sanchez joins iHeartMedia from Entercom Washington DC where he currently serves as Operations Manager/Program Director for Regional Mexican “El Zol 107.9” WLZL. He first came to Washington to launch “All News 99.1” WNEW in 2012 after twelve years at 880 WCBS New York where he rose to Assistant Director of News & Programming. iHeartMedia is completing its reshuffling of the Boston market by returning two stations to formats and branding they previously used. The Conservative Talk format of “Talk 1430” WKOX Everett has moved back to 1200 WXKS Newton as “Talk 1200“. The station previously featured that format from 2010-2012 and will once again serve as Rush Limbaugh’s Boston affiliate. Other programs being carried by Talk 1200 include Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Buck Sexton, and Mark Levin. Bloomberg Radio has announced it will launch on Beasley Media’s 1330 WRCA Watertown/106.1 W291CZ Boston as well as 92.9 WBOS-HD2 Brookline on Tuesday, July 4 at 12:00pm. Bloomberg Radio currently airs in the Boston market on iHeartMedia’s 1200 WXKS Newton/94.5 WJMN-HD2 and that will also continue for the next few months. Bloomberg Radio also airs on a 24/7 basis on its owned 1130 WBBR New York, CBS Radio’s 99.1 WDCH Bowie MD/Washington DC, and iHeartMedia’s 960 KNEW San Francisco. 1330 WRCA dropped its brokered lineup at the end of 2016 to prepare to relaunch with the 106.1 translator. The Comedy format on 1200 WXKS Boston will cease after just seven months. “Matty’s Comedy 1200” will flip to Bloomberg’s Business programming feed on Friday at 12:00am. The Boston Herald reports that the station will have 26 locally based staffers contributing to the programming. The Comedy programming debuted in August 2012 following the demise of its previous Conservative Talk format. It will to continue to be heard on 107.9 WXKS-FM-HD2, while 1200 will simulcast on 94.5 WJMN-HD2.
Update 8/13: As we stated previously, Clear Channel used the new integration with 24/7 Comedy to debut “Matty’s Comedy 1200” at 8:30am following a “MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT” during the morning show of “Kiss 108“. Using the market leading stature of Kiss and morning host Matty Siegel to give attention to the new format, Siegel and comedian Lenny Clarke (another Boston fixture) introduced the new format on both stations.
