Empire Broadcasting has flipped Hot AC “Mix 106.1” 1160 WAIX Mechanicsville/106.1 W291BY Albany and Sports “Sporty 1240” WPTR Schenectady NY to Business as “Empire News Network“. The three stations are carrying Bloomberg Business programming from 12am to 6pm daily and syndicated Conservative Talkers Joe Pags and Mike Gallagher in evenings. Both Pags and Gallagher have connections to the Albany market. Pags, under his given name Joe Pagliarulo was an anchor at WRGB-TV from 2002-2005. Gallagher spent many years in the 1990s at 810 WGY before moving to WABC New York and then syndication. WAIX/WPTR will carry Union College football and hockey which previously was only heard on WPTR.
Empire Broadcasting has flipped 1240 WPTR Schnectady, NY from Oldies to Sports. The station, which had been running the “True Oldies Channel” is now utilizing the CBS Sports Radio network feed. The Albany Business Review reports the station will continue to air NASCAR coverage. WPTR operates with 1kW 24 hours. It joins Townsquare Media’s “ESPN 104.5 The Team” WTMM and Clear Channel’s “Fox Sports 980” WOFX in the Capital Region Sports battle.
