After agreeing in December to purchase Silent 1510 WMEX Boston from Daly XXL Communications for $125,000, the contract by Ed Perry’s Marshfield Broadcasting Company has been filed with the FCC. Not included in the deal are the current call letters as the license to use them from 105.9 WMEX-LP Rochester NH was non-transferrable. Also the contract states that the current tower site owner Duffy Associates, LLC has filed a lawsuit against Daly XXL Communications, Ed Perry, and former WMEX owner Blackstrap Broadcasting. Salem Media has dropped Conservative Talk from “1260 The Buzz” WBIX Boston and has leased the station to “Nossa Rádio USA“. The station targets Brazilian ex-pats with Portuguese language programming and had been heard in the Boston market on 1570 WMVX Methuen until early 2017. The station’s Conservative Talk brand had debuted in September 2015 and featured Salem’s syndicated lineup of Conservative Talkers including Mike Gallagher, Dennis Prager, and Michael Medved.
Salem Media Group utilized the Republican Presidential Debate it is co-hosting with CNN to debut Conservative Talk “1260 The Buzz” WBIX Boston. The station is featuring many of Salem’s national Conservative hosts including Bill Bennett 6-9am, Mike Gallagher 9am-12pm, Dennis Prager 12-3pm, Michael Medved 3-6pm, Hugh Hewitt 6-9pm, and Eric Metaxas 9-11pm. Many of these hosts were previously featured in Boston on Salem’s 1150 WTTT (Now WWDJ) when it was Conservative Talk from 2003 until 2008. WBIX joins a crowded field of low-powered AM Conservative Talkers battling with Entercom’s 680 WRKO that includes iHeartMedia’s 1430 WKOX and Daly XXL’s 1510 WMEX.
Radio Disney continues its sell-off with the divestment of two more stations to Salem Media. Salem’s Pennsylvania Media Associates will acquire 1260 WMKI Boston for $500,000, while Inspiration Media of Texas adds 620 KMKI Plano/Dallas for $3 million. WMKI will becomes Salem’s fourth property in the Boston market joining Christian Preaching “590 The Word” WEZE, “Spirit of Boston” 950 WROL, and Spanish Christian “Radio Luz 1150” WWDJ. The acquisition will lead to questions of whether Salem will bring a Conservative Talk “Answer” to Rush Limbaugh’s need for a new Boston affiliate.
