Station Sales Amidst rumors of an acquisition by Alpha Media, Morris Communications is making an asset exchange in the Palm Springs market to remove a potential loss of a grandfathered asset. Morris will exchange Sports “Fox Sports 1270” KFSQ Thousand Palms, CA to Sunnylands Broadcasting for 95.5 KCLZ Twentynine Palms. Morris currently leases KCLZ from Sunnylands to rebroadcast Rock 93.7 KCLB Coachella and will lease back 1270 after the exchange closes. 95.5 KCLZ is technically part of the Victor Valley market allowing Morris to not lose any of its grandfathered holdings following a sale. KFUT Palm Springs Flips To Sports

Morris Communications’ Desert Radio Group flipped Spanish Oldies “Recuerdo 1270” KFUT Thousand Palms/Palm Springs to Sports today as “Fox Sports 1270“. The station will run the national Fox Sports Radio feed around the clock, with the exception of the syndicated “TMZ Sports” from 4-5pm. A call letter change to KFSQ is pending. In the press release Program Director Mike Oakes commented, “Fox Sports Radio programming originates in SoCal, and we are thrilled to bring it to the Desert, serving Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley. And I’m especially excited to launch two rising shows in the sports talk universe, Jay Mohr Sports and TMZ Sports. These are the cutting edge of the sports talk genre.”
