Rusty James Joins Max Media Norfolk As VP/Operations & Programming

Max Media has announced the appointment of Rusty James as Vice President of Operations and Programming for its Norfolk VA cluster starting July 9. James has been programming at Midwest Communications Evansville IN since 2005 and rose to Operations Manager in 2014. At Max Media he will oversee Classic Hits “92.9 The Wave” WVBW, Sports “94.1 ESPN Radio” WVSP, Country “97.3 The Eagle” WGH-FM, CHR “Hot 100.5” WVHT, and Oldies 1310 WGH. James fills the position that has been vacant since John Shomby departed in February 2016 to become Director of Nash Programming for Cumulus Media. Max Media has promoted Director of Sales Keith Barton to Vice President/General Manager for its five station cluster in Norfolk/Virginia Beach replacing the exiting Dave Paulus. Barton has been with the company since 1998 and Director of Sales since 2011. Paulus had overseen the cluster since 2011 and previously spent a decade as Market Manager at Saga Communications’ Norfolk cluster. WGH Flips To Oldies

Max Media has flipped Gospel “Star 1310” WGH Newport News/Norfolk VA to 1950s/60s based Oldies. The new format is playing off the station’s heritage as the market’s Top 40 leader in that era.
