iHeartMedia & Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia Partner For Breakthrough Radio 1480

iHeartMedia and Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia have launched “Breakthrough Radio” on 1480 WDAS and 105.3 WDAS-HD2 Philadelphia. The new format features a mix of upbeat pop hits and health features produced by the hospital and replaces the Smooth Jazz “JJZ” format heard on the station since 2013. iHeart To Launch Philadelphia Papal Pop-Up Format

With Pope Francis set to visit Philadelphia later this month, iHeartMedia is launching a temporary “Pope Info Radio“. Starting on Saturday, September 19, Smooth Jazz “1480 JJZ” 1480 WDAS/106.1 WISX-HD2 will devote its programming to information related to the Papal including his speeches in Washington D.C., New York and Philadelphia between September 24 and September 27. The station will also focus on the traffic issues created by the multiple road closures in the city during the visit. CBS Radio has also dedicated programming to the visit, however KYW’s “Popecast” is only available on 96.5 WZMP-HD3.

Smooth Jazz Returns To Philadelphia

Clear Channel will shift Urban Oldies 1480 WDAS Philadelphia to Smooth Jazz on Monday, June 10 at 12:00pm. The new format, which will also be heard on 106.1 WISX-HD2 and WJJZ.com, will resurrect the WJJZ branding used by 106.1 from 1993 to August 2006 and 97.5 from November 2006 to September 2008. Michael Tozzi, who programmed both incarnations of the station will be involved in the newest version. Tozzi currently operates IJazzGlobal.com.

WDAS-AM Returns In Philadelphia

Clear Channel is dropping the Spanish CHR format of “Rumba 1480” WUBA Philadelphia and resurrecting the heritage WDAS calls with an Urban Oldies format. WUBA is already redirecting its listeners to Aztec Capital Partner’s “El Zol 1340” WHAT. The new format will debut on Wednesday, November 23 with R&B Christmas music through the holidays before shifting to R&B hits of the 50’s through 70’s. This marks the end of a chapter involving “Rumba”, which launched on 104.5 amidst much fanfare in August 2006. By May 2007, the format was moved to 1480 as 104.5 flipped to Alternative Rock as “Radio 104.5“.
