Red Wolf Broadcasting’s three state “Kool Radio” trimulcast is temporarily losing one of its markets while adding FM translators in its other two. On April 1, 1490 WACM West Springfield MA will pick up the programming of sister Spanish CHR “Bomba 1270” WSPR Springfield while 1270 temporarily goes off the air for transmitter site upgrades. The Kool format will return to Springfield on or before May 1 on 1270. The move will also allow Bomba to gain an FM signal as WACM holds a CP to move 93.9 W230BH Montauk NY to Springfield on 104.5 as part of the AM Revitalization. With Red Wolf Broadcasting acquiring Davidson Media’s New England properties, the company is combining two Oldies brands into one trimulcast. The merger of programming takes the “Kool” branding of 1180 WSKP Hope Valley RI/106.5 WBMW-HD3 Pawcatuck CT and the airstaff of 990 WXCT Southington/Hartford CT and 1490 WACM Springfield MA. Northeast Radio Watch reports that the new “Kool Radio” is featuring WACM/WXCT’s Larry Kratka in mornings as previous morning host Fred King exits.
Davidson Media Group continues its sell-off with the divestment of their four New England stations to John Fuller’s Red Wolf Broadcasting for an undisclosed price. Red Wolf will be acquiring Spanish CHR “Latina 100.3” WKKB Middletown/Providence RI, Tropical “Power 1270” WSPR Springfield MA and Oldies simulcast 1490 WACM West Springfield MA/990 WXCT Southington CT. The company will begin operating the four stations immediately via LMA.
