Bernard Radio is selling Spanish AC “Mega 103.1” WVKO Johnstown and Gospel “1580 The Praise” WVKO Columbus, OH to TSJ Radio for $743,750. TSJ has been operating WVKO-FM via Time Brokerage Agreement, while the AM is operated by Gold Chip Broadcasting. The latter group has held an option to buy both stations since December 2012. Gold Chip was given thirty days to negotiate its own mutually agreeable purchase agreement. Josh Guttman led TSJ Media operates Spanish language newspapers and magazines in nine midwestern markets and in addition to WVKO-FM the company operates “Mega 97.7” WOXY Mason/Cincinnati and “Mega 87.7” WLFM-LP Cleveland via Time Brokerage Agreements.
Gary Richards has ended his LMA with 1580 WVKO Columbus taking with it the station’s Liberal Talk format. In a very biting post on Facebook, Richards blames among others the lack of advertiser support and the Democratic Party itself for his inability to turn a profit with the station and renew the lease. The station will flip to Gospel on Monday, December 17. Richards launched the current format on WVKO in January. The station previously carried the same format from 2007 to 2010.
