More Secret Format Changes Of 2016

A couple weeks ago we rounded up a number of format changes that took place under the radar. Since that report we’ve been tipped off to a number of additional changes. Shortly after Point Broadcasting closed on its acquisition of Rock 99.1 KXFM Santa Maria CA on August 31, the station dropped its format and is currently running a jockless/commercial-free version of the Rhythmic Oldies “Old School” format it operates on 104.7 KOCP Oxnard and 104.7 KQIE Redlands/Riverside and a few other stations in Southern California. KQWB Dumps Classic Country For Fox Sports

Days after Midwest Communications brought Classic Country to FM in Fargo with the launch of “104.7 Duke-FM” KMJO, Radio FM Media has dropped the format from “Willie 1660” KQWB West Fargo. KQWB is now running the national Fox Sports Radio feed surprisingly under the name “Fox Sports 1660“. This is the second time the station has utilized a Sports format in recent years. It was “1660 ESPN” from 2007 until 2012, when it flipped to Oldies and then Classic Country.

Translator Changes Bridgelight LLC has applied to increase 103.1 W276AQ Fort Lee NJ from 35 watts at 136.9 meters to 99 watts with a change in originating station to Cumulus’ 94.7 WNSH-HD4 Newark, which already rebroadcasts Bridgelight’s “Bridge FM” Christian AC format (Coverage Map). Bible Broadcasting applies to increase 93.9 W230CE Charlotte NC from 38 watts at 61.6 meters to 95 watts at 107 meters on 93.7 rebroadcasting their 930 WYFQ (Coverage Map). Edgewater Broadcasting’s CP for 104.1 W281BF Richmond VA proposes an increase from 30 watts at 23.7 meters to 250 watts at 188 meters on 104.3. Willie Launches In Fargo

The pending demise of the True Oldies Channel has led to a format change in Fargo. Radio Fargo-Moorhead has dropped the syndicated Oldies format on KQWB West Fargo, ND in favor of Classic Country “Willie 1660“. The flip eliminates the little overlap between KQWB and sister Classic Hits “92.7 The Drive” KZDR.

Station Sales Come Fast & Furious In Fargo

The previously announced sales of a pair of station clusters in Fargo closed today leading to a third sale. Midwest Communications finalized its $25 Million purchase of Radio Fargo-Moorhead from James Ingstad, while Larry Wilson’s L&L Radio completed its $21 Million purchase of Triad Broadcasting’s 32 stations including six in Fargo. With those deals complete, Ingstad has turned around and acquired L&L’s Fargo stations for $9.5 Million. The stations involved in the purchase are Rock “Q98” 98.7 KQWB-FM, Country “Froggy 99.9” KVOX-FM, AC “FM 105.1” KLTA, Classic Rock “107.9 The Fox” KPFX, News/Talk 1450 KBMW, and Oldies “True Oldies 1660” KQWB. Larry Wilson Acquires Triad Broadcasting

Larry Wilson, the former founder and CRO of Citadel Broadcasting who operates Alpha Broadcasting in Portland, has acquired Triad Broadcasting for $21 Million. Triad operates with different operational names in the markets it serves, such as Go Radio Fargo, JMP Radio in Peoria, and Adventure Radio in Bluefield and Savannah/Hilton Head The company will be operated under the name L&L Radio, standing for “Live & Local”. The 32 stations involved in the deal serve five markets: Biloxi MS – Sports “96.7 The Champ” WUJM, Rock 97.9 WCPR, Variety Hits “105.9 Bob-FM” WQBB, CHR “107.1 The Monkey” WXYK, and Sports simulcast “The Team” 1490 WXBD/1640 WTNI.
