Cumulus Renews Rush Limbaugh For Three Years

Cumulus Media and Premiere Networks have agreed on a three year contract to keep Rush Limbaugh on 33 of the company’s stations. The new deal will keep the show on Cumulus owned stations through the end of 2019 including 890 WLS Chicago, 820 WBAP Dallas, 760 WJR Detroit, 560 KSFO San Francisco, and 630/105.9 WMAL Washington DC. The renewal comes without the animosity of the last extension in 2013 that saw Cumulus threaten to drop Limbaugh as it did to Sean Hannity before agreeing a renewal in all markets except New York. KGO Announces New Lineup With Ronn Owens Staying After All

As 810 KGO San Francisco prepares to relaunch with its “Next Generation” tomorrow, a major hiccup has already come into play. The station announced its new on-air lineup this morning by announcing that Ronn Owens would remain on the station as opposed to moving to afternoons at sister Conservative Talk 560 KSFO as originally announced. The new lineup at KGO will consist of the regionally syndicated Armstrong & Getty from 6-10am, Owens from 10am-12pm, KGO weekend host Ethan Bearman moves to weekdays from 12-2pm and fellow weekender Brian Copeland will follow from 2-4pm. Mike Anthony Joins Cumulus As KGO/KSFO Program Director

Cumulus has named a new Program Director for News/Talk 810 KGO and Conservative Talk 560 KSFO San Francisco. Mike Anthony, currently GM of Empire Broadcasting’s News 1590 KLIV San Jose will make the move up to San Francisco. Anthony previously was VP/Programming for Mapleton Communications, Market Manager of their Monterey stations and owner of ResearchWorks. His appointment comes one day following Lee Hammer adding Operations Manager duties for KSFO/KGO on top of his job as OM/PD of Sports 680 KNBR and 1050 KTCT. Limbaugh, Hannity, & Beck Move To KSFO San Francisco

At the beginning of 2014, Clear Channel moved Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity to their then Liberal Talk stations in Los Angeles and San Francisco and rebranded them as Conservative Talk “The Patriot“. The San Francisco version won’t make it past nine months. Cumulus Media has announced that the trio of shows will move from “960 The Patriot” KNEW San Francisco to their 560 KSFO on Monday, September 29. KSFO was Limbaugh’s longtime affiliate in San Francisco until Clear Channel moved him first to 910 in January 2012 and later 960. Cumulus News/Talk 760 WJR Detroit Program Director Kevin Metheny is transferring to San Francisco to become Operations Director of Conservative Talk 560 KSFO and News/Talk 810 KGO. Metheny has had a long radio career including stops as Program Director at WGN Chicago, managing Clear Channel’s Cleveland cluster, and serving as Regional Vice President of Programming for Clear Channel. He’s unfortunately is best known as the Program Director of WNBC New York depicted as “Pig Vomit” in Howard Stern’s “Private Parts”. Sean Hannity Confirms Cumulus Departure

While it has been an unstated fact for the past several weeks, Premiere Radio Networks and Sean Hannity have confirmed they will not be reupping with their current Cumulus owned affiliates at the end of the year. Telling InsideRadio that, “We fired them weeks ago,” the move coincides with Cumulus resigning Rush Limbaugh for all their affiliates except in New York. Hannity will make the move to Clear Channel’s 710 WOR along with Limbaugh and could easily make the same move to 910 KKSF San Francisco from Cumulus’ 560 KSFO that Rush made in January 2012. Report: Cumulus To Drop Limbaugh & Hannity

Update 8/16:On his program Thursday night, Michael Savage told his listeners that he is the heir apparent to Hannity’s timeslot on Cumulus’ stations and predicted he will move to afternoons by the end of the year. Politico.com claims that while Cumulus is likely to drop Sean Hannity from its stations, it was likely to come to terms to continue airing Rush Limbaugh on “virtually” all of his current affiliates. Update 7/29: Mediaite.com has followed up on the original Politico report stating that Premiere has “48 hours to stop Cumulus from dropping them.” There’s no word if the end of July drop-dead date for negotiations comes from Cumulus, Premiere, or both. On the heels of the hiring of Bill Pugh as OM of AAA 104.5 KFOG/97.7 KFFG and Classic Rock “107.7 The Bone” KSAN and PD of KFOG, Cumulus Media has continued the restructuring of its San Francisco market management staff with two additional appointments today. Steven Sklenar joins the company as Market Manager overseeing the aforementioned KFOG/KFFG, KSAN, as well as Conservative Talk 560 KSFO, News/Talk 810 KGO, and Sports duo 680 KNBR and 1050 KTCT.
