iHeart’s Rip City Radio 620 Portland & NBC Sports Northwest Partner On Programming

iHeartMedia Sports “Rip City Radio” 620 KPOJ Portland and NBC Sports Northwest have agreed to a content partnership that will see the station rebrand as “NBC Sports Northwest Rip City Radio” are share nine hours of weekday programming daily. KPOJ will also relocate its local programming to new studios at NBC Sports Northwest’s facility. The deal will see KPOJ’s “Rip City Mornings” hosted by Dan Sheldon and Nigel Burton from 6-9am and “Rip City Drive” with Travis Demers and Chad Doing from 3-6pm simulcast on the television network replacing programming from Entercom’s “1080 The Fan” KFXX in those dayparts. KPOJ Enters Rip City

Clear Channel’s “Fox Sports 620” KPOJ Portland is going all-in behind the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers. With the Blazers about to begin the playoffs later this week, their flagship station is rebranding as “Rip City Radio“. The Rip City moniker has become associated with Portland since the Trail Blazers first season when announcer Bill Schonely coined the term. This is the first season KPOJ served as flagship station for the Blazers broadcasts as they moved from sister News/Talk 1190 KEX. All of the existing local programming on the station has a Blazers connection as team play-by-play man Brian Wheeler hosts a daily show from 2 to 4pm and the team produces “Trail Blazers Courtside” every Monday from 6-7pm. KPOJ Portland To Drop Liberal Talk For Sports

Update 8:40pm: KPOJ made the shift to “Fox Sports 620” at 5:30pm. The station’s lineup will feature the bulk of the national Fox Sports Radio lineup with the exception of Dan Patrick who airs on “750 The Game” KXTG. KPOJ will replay Fox Sports Daybreak from 6-9am, following its live 3-6am airing. The station will also feature a local show “Fox Sports PDX” from 9am to 12pm with Scott Lynn and Ron Callan rotating as hosts. On Twitter it was pointed out to us that the station is shifting from coverage of Michelle Obama’s husband to that of her brother, who is head coach of the Oregon State basketball team.
