Following the shutdown of Martz Communication’s pair of HD fed translators, the company has begun selling off its properties in the market. 97.5 W248AQ Harrison MI has been sold to Salem Communications for $250,000 who will use it to rebroadcast Conservative Talk “1400 The Patriot” WDTK. Martz had purchased the translator last fall for $32,000 and had gained a CP to move it to 92.7 with 250 watts. Following the debut of “ESPN Deportes Chicago” 97.5 W248AO, EMF will be pairing with Clear Channel to launch a second translator in the city. 96.7 W244BQ Park Ridge has applied to operate with 85 watts at 1181 feet with a directional antenna pointed northwest away from WSSR Joliet. A quiet week on the translator front this week. The top translator story this week is the return of the Urban format to Pittsburgh via 660 WPYT and 100.1 W261AX as we’ve been discussing for the past few weeks. About 60 miles east of Kansas City we see the debut of a new CHR. 1430 KAOL Carrollton, MO has dropped its Sports format and with the addition of 101.3 K267BN Bosworth, MO it has relaunched as “101.3 The Grenade“. A pair of translators are about to debut in Hilton Head Island, SC. 104.3 W282AT Hilton Head Island has been sold from Edgewater Broadcasting to Monterey Licenses’ Adventure Radio Group where it will bring Soft AC “1130 The Island” WHHW to FM. Urban Returns To Pittsburgh

Update 5/22: 660 WPYT and 100.1 W261AX debuted their new Urban format under the aforementioned “WAMO 100” name on Saturday, May 21. The station is imaging itself as “Pittsburgh’s Home For Hip-Hop And R&B”. Additional sweepers are taking potshots at Clear Channel CHR “96.1 Kiss-FM” WKST for its use of syndicated programming and being the teen girl station. Martz registered 961KissSucks.com last week. Update 5/15: 100.1 has begun testing its new signal in preparation of its official launch when it will be paired with 660 WPYT as “WAMO 100“. It’s currently rebroadcasting 90.5 WDUQ. While much of the translator news had to do with 106.3 in New York last week there was lots more action elsewhere. Kansas City has more 250 watt translators in the commercial band than any other market and adds another one today. Alpine Broadcasting’s 102.9 K275BQ Richmond, MO signed on Friday afternoon rebroadcasting 1160 KCXL Liberty, MO. EMF Broadcasting’s 89.5 K208EO Sandia, NM has completed its move to 107.5 where it has begun airing Vanguard Media’s “Real Oldies 1600” KRKE Albuquerque as “Cool 107.5“. The translator covers the northeast portion of Albuquerque.
