FCC Report 8/19: Dickey Brothers Enter Consent Decree

Dickey Broadcasting Company has agreed to an $8,000 consent decree with the FCC over the issues connected to the transfer of control between Lew Dickey Sr. and the trust he created to hold the licenses of “680 The Fan” WCNN North Atlanta, “1230 The Sports X” WFOM Marietta, and “1340 The Fan 2” WIFN Atlanta GA. Dickey Sr. created the trust in 2000 with sons Lew Dickey Jr. and David Dickey named as co-trustees, but the next day without his sons knowledge transferred 90% of his equity in the company to the trust. In 2010, Dickey Sr. then divided the trust equally between his six children but failed to notify them until a week prior to his death in 2013.

Rude Departure At 680 The Fan Atlanta

Dickey Broadcasting Sports “680/93.7 The Fan” WCNN North Atlanta/W229AG Atlanta morning host Christopher Rude has exited after 15 years with the station as the station has decided not to renew his contract. Rude joined WCNN in 2002 after a long run at “96 Rock” 96.1 WKLS. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that co-hosts Chris Dimino and Nick Cellini will remain in place in mornings with a new name to be unveiled next month to replace “The Rude Awakening” moniker currently in use.

Atlanta Braves Renew With Dickey Broadcasting For 10 Years

Dickey Broadcasting has signed a ten year extension with the Atlanta Braves to keep Sports “680/93.7 The Fan” WCNN North Atlanta/W229AG Atlanta as the franchise’s flagship station. All regular season games will continue to simulcast on Cumulus News/Talk “NewsRadio 106.7” WYAY Sandy Springs, while all spring training games will be heard on either WCNN or sisters “The Fan 2” 1230 WFOM Marietta or “The Fan 3” 1340 WIFN Atlanta. As part of the deal Dickey will move its offices and studios to the new Suntrust Park development taking over fourth floor space in one of the buildings constructed adjacent to the new stadium.
