HRN Broadcasting is selling Sports “730 The Game” WZGV Cramerton/Charlotte NC and the CP to move 104.5 W283AR Higgston GA to 97.5 in Charlotte to Marty Hurney’s 2G Media Inc. for $900,000. Hurney was General Manager of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers from 2002-2012 before returning this summer as Interim GM through the completion of the upcoming season. After exiting the first time he joined WZGV as a host in June 2014 and then began operating the station via Time Brokerage Agreement in January 2015. Before making the move to football management in the 1980s, Hurney was a sportswriter for the Washington Times.
HRN Broadcasting Sports “ESPN Charlotte” 730 WZGV Cramerton/Charlotte NC is shaking up its morning and afternoon slots. Gerry ‘V’ Vaillancourt, former morning host at iHeartMedia News/Talk 99.5 WRNO New Orleans, is returning to Charlotte to take the 3-7pm slot at WZGV. Vaillancourt worked in the Charlotte market from 1990-2002 before following the NBA’s then Charlotte Hornets to New Orleans. He worked on the franchise’s radio broadcasts as an analyst until 2014. He exited WRNO at the end of 2016. To make room for Vaillancourt, current afternoon host Bobby Rosinski and 12-3pm hosts Molly Cotten and Walker Mehl will debut the “Wake Up Call” from 6-10am. They replace ESPN Radio’s Mike & Mike in the morning slot.
Former Carolina Panthers General Manager Marty Hurney is going into radio management. The Charlotte Observer reports that Hurney and Lanny Ford, current GM of HRN Broadcasting’s “ESPN 730” WZGV Cramerton/Charlotte, NC will lease it and sister Talk “Independent Asheville Radio” 1350 WZGM Black Mountain. Hurney and Ford currently co-host “Inside The Lines With Marty Hurney” from 1-3pm on WZGV.
As the FCC gets back to normal operations following the shutdown, the agency is working quickly to get through the remaining 2003 translator applications. A number of translators have been granted over the past week. Among the new translator CP granted are: Hope Christian Church of Marlton, NJ was granted 92.9 W225BT Glen Burnie, MD with 19 watts rebroadcasting Clear Channel’s 93.1 WPOC. Due to the closeness of the translator to WPOC, we would expect a further application for the translator. Hope also was granted 95.1 W235CE Gettysburg, PA with 7 watts rebroadcasting Clear Channel’s 94.9 WRBT Harrisburg.
